Basically, it's a free ship simulator called "Ships" - a plugin for google earth.
Quote from Gcaptain:
The software development company, PlanetInAction, has just released a free simulation game that leverages the Google Earth plugin and presents it as the platform for this free game. The game is a case study / technology show piece that demonstrates just what can be achieved with Google Earth and, interestingly enough, is called Ships.
Ships is a simulation program that allows you to get to be the helmsman of your own fleet of ships - including barges, cargo ships, container ships, and even a cruise ship (the QM 2) - that you can steer anywhere in the world with included 3D graphics and sound effects.
Whats interesting to us is that the game was developed to show off the capabilities of the Google Earth platform and it just so happens that the the way they chose to do it was to allow gamers to control a 3D ship anywhere in the world.

sounds good ill check this out

 So are they going to add a trawler or two. Thanks for the kind words, the cool stern trawler picture you posted to my fishing boat sim question last month about a fishing boat or two as a possible add-on was cool. Finaly a belated hello from across the pond. Appreciate the link, thanks. :captain:

I have a problem trying to play it. I know I got the Goole Earth Plugin and it says Google Earth Plugin does not support this yet. But it does support it but it says it don't. why is this?
-
Plugin installed OK for me but the whole thing needs working on. The ship controls are minimal, no thrusters etc. You can go ahead or astern, turn and use the anchor/horn!!!! The airship could be fun?

This is what the problem is what I'm talking about:

Go to control panel / click on add and remove programs/ click show updates and find IE8 and double click it and delete, then you get IE 7 back

I had a look at it and it worked for me. The airship was novel but I was not impressed with the overall concept which is no near competitor for other sims, let alone SS. Not even as good as the flight simulator now in Google Earth.
On a parallel note, there is a free Google Earth Plug-in system for FlightSim called "My FlightSim GoogleEarth" which is very good in that it enables your aircraft to be positioned at the correct height with a one minute marker for where it is expected to be then; it also places all AI (and MP user) aircraft in correct relation to your aircraft as well (in heavy air traffic 100 aircraft visible) all in correct position and updated every 3 seconds.
As a system it provides a vision radar overcoming heavy cloud and/or fog and/or heavy precipitation penetration. It is particularly useful for non-ILS approaches to airfields.
It is configured with three entries in Google Earth My Places consisting of 1) My Aircraft, 2) Other Aircraft, and 3) Spot Aircraft (the virtual position behind 'My Aircraft'.
It requires the tiny single purpose loop-back web server 'My FS Google Earth' which is configurable with simple controls for example positioning the height and angle of the Spot Aircraft with a slider.
The only other requirement is the 3rd party FSUIPC FlightSim Interface Plug-in which is a free download for non-commercial users.
So, why have I gone to some lengths to explain all this?
Well, I think that the concept would be useful, and simpler to implement within SS ~ Not that I am suggesting VSTEP should bother but it might be an interesting project for a keen SS user/developer and the result would be worthwhile in both missions and multi-user.
The tagging of course would be taken from the SS GPS Lat/Long readout and Heading.
The system is further configurable and easy to implement as well.

I downloaded it in Google Chrome with 0 problem!
Now if only Google Earth allowed you to use plugins from the program, like what sketchup allows :-\
-
How good is it? ???
-
It's pretty bad actually.. but funny for a little while.. ;D
-
In my humble opinion it is rubbish. But then, having been used to SS2008 more or less anything would be rubbish.
It is a good idea but at present has little to offer.
-
I went back to IE7 and now it works Thanks Tore!
Forget Chrome it is a pain!

Well said as usual!!

Too bad the Titanic or the Pride of Rotterdam/Hull aren't in the plugin.
