is it possible to climb ladders on ss08 ? if so how?

If you mean proper ladders, then no.. most of them you cannot climb.
Stairs (also 'ladders' in sailor lingo) can be climbed where the walkthrough model permits, and in rare occasions, like the Northern Star (on the stb side, from the wheelhouse/top deck to the deck), a ladder might be working.

Some ladders on cranes, etc, can be climbed with the right combination of looking up and running. You need to experiment.
Look for posts by people who have been successful.

Like Marty said really, why don't you experiment and have an explore round vessels trying different things in the game before coming on here and asking questions? :)

It's also possible to climb up the JJ's foremast, not all the way but a bit though.
You can also climb on the Igor K.'s wheelhouse.

Well it has no purpose to climb if you are not going to access a special area (like a operative crane house for example where you will operate crane controls, or accessing a operative winch that need to be started manually).
There is no maintenance mode in Ship Simulator where you can climb a mast to fix lights, broken antennas etc.
Since you can crash your boat in this game it would be pretty smart to also be able to fix it afterwards, like repairing damages etc :D This is not a advanced feature I'm asking for but rather a simple one. :)
In the FPS game FarCry 2 you can fix your car if you crash it. The only thing you can fix is the engine before the car eventually explodes in front of your face :D :D

You can also Climb onto the little Historical Yacht's upper half (Above the wheelhouse), gives you a nice view! ;D
