When VSTEP were developing SS08, they uploaded a few videos of a few W.I.P items of the SS08.
Are they doing the same for SS10?
-
Not that I've seen.
Bear in mind that at the moment, they are in the depths of coding. So, there is no real visible output yet. Just lines of code.
But they may release videos etc later on, when they have something worth showing you that really knocks your socks off.
I think you will be bowled over when they do release some shots.

So it's in the coding stage? It must be operable atleast so they could do the teaser?
Unless they used pro instead for the teaser but only used the boats and enviroments that will be in SS10?
Plus they must be able to make some videos like this as some ship models are already done if you look in the teaser..

So if it was pro that was used for the teaser and SS10 is still in coding stage, perhaps VSTEP released the teaser a bit too early? Wouldn't it be better if they released it a bit later when they could deliver bits of teasing info/screenshots every so oftern (like monthly) to the release?

I don't find it makes a difference when SS10 is released. To me, I'm still enjoying SS08 and will do until the new version is available.
Why do people have to beat to death this subject so often? VSTEP work very hard to makes EVERYONE happy so why can't people just leave them alone and stop critising them?? :-\
Not a dig at anyone here, but I just can't see why people have such little patience in these matters?

It doesn't make a difference to me as I'm too still enjoying SS08.
There's always criticism Adam.. On each and every company there are people that criticize it, and I'm sure every company tries very hard to make everyone happy.
Plus some companies like criticism, as it's feedback of their services.
Patience isn't what I'm getting at, it's answers what I'd like..

I think its bad that Vstep dont give more information than the teaster :-\

The idea of a teaser, is to tease and get us interested. If it gave too much away, it would be a trailer. And Terry has already said the game is in coding still, so they can't give too much away yet :-X

I agree. There should be at least 1-2 leaks before major release :D
You know, game news sites loves rumours, and so do I ;D

This is like dangling a carrot, and a nice juicy one at that. ;D ;)

The teaser shows what will be in 2010, there is no point in posting any more screen shots.
VSTEP are much too busy to cater to every demand for pictures. What purpose would it serve for them? Additional screenshots would not bring additional customers, and would possibly get negative comments on a work still in progress—as has happened.

As Terry said, there is no real visable output yet, but a teaser is already out? ???

Maybe, as you said, it was SS Pro or an enhanced version of ShipSim2008?

What purpose does it have? There are leaked pictures from the game Battlefield: Bad Company 2 out there even if the game is not going to be released before 2010.
It's pretty naturally from game developers to do this these days. At least if there is no previews a demo should be made. But I guess the on-line game magazine reviews will write their own reviews anyway, bad or good :P

Well I've been hinted there is more in SS10 that wasn't shown in the teaser.

I doubt it would be a enhanced version of SS08, what would the point of that be if they're doing Pro and SS10?
It must be SS Pro, so it could be false advertising perhaps? A teaser is advertising SS10? Which Terry said, is still in the coding stage with no real visable output yet.
-
Well, let's not get into too much detail.. cause that leads to speculation, and before we know it, everyone knows all kinds of things that were never even so in the first place.. hehe ;D
The teaser shows some stuff that will be in SS10..
So, there is part of SS10, that is indeed visible.. in a real gaming environment.. That much is true indeed.. but to show more, if that other stuff isn't, wouldn't make sense.
This was shown, as a teaser.. cause that's all it can be used for at this point.. to tease people with a first glance at things to come.
Since we all have read that parts of the Pro version end up in SS10, it doesn't matter wether or not it is Pro with some SS10 vessels, or maybe even the other way around.. But the teaser could well be neither too.. too soon to say anything specific anyway..
When there is sufficient progress to show you all some cool new stuff, no doubt VSTEP will do so.
At this point things are pretty hectic for VSTEP, with one project nearing completion, the other in development.. We can only wait, and hope that it is worthwhile.. and it will be, if I had to guess.. ;)

What I find strange, Fred, is all this talk about the teaser as if it were the only video on 2010. There is also the “Making of Ship Simulator 2008†which is really about SS 2010. It is longer than the teaser, and goes into much more detail on Sydney, Bora Bora, and the new ocean model.
I get the feeling that those complaining the loudest are not paying that much attention to all the information that is available if they bother to look.
-
So where can I find this Making of SS08 movie? IS it the one that follows with one of the SS version?

Why is SS10 info in the "Making of Ship Simulator 2008"?
That doesn't make sense.. And how were we suppose to know that exactly?

SS08 CE edition.

I was under the impression that you could only view the "making of" video in SS08 CE?
If that is correct, which I believe it is, how are those of us who don't have the CE supposed to pay attention to the information that is available?

I would like to see the 'making of', but im not planning to pay €30 for it. I already have the game and all the add-ons :-\ Maybe if they publish it, people will understand how much work is involved and give the devs some slack.

Exactly, instead of keeping it secret it could benefit VSTEP by showing people the amount of work behind scenes and people will give VSTEP some slack.
So VSTEP can work more effeciently without having to sort out emails asking for news and screenshots.

Marty,
You forgot to mention we have to pay €30.00 to "bother to look". If we already have SS2008, and NH, why would we pay an extra €30 just to see the making of video?

VSTEP, like many companies, choose to reward those who support them—either by purchase, or by contributing to the development of their product. Those who merely snipe from the sidelines should not expect the same consideration.
VSTEP offer many opportunities for forum members to contribute to the product, either by constructing good missions or in more direct ways. They show their appreciation for such efforts in material ways.

We purchased the game, we purchased the addon, we purchased shipyard products.
How can we contribute to the development when VSTEP only want maritime engineers or a maritime officer's?
I've tried to help in numerous ways, but I keep getting rejected so personally I find your comment rediculous.
Topic locked, I can see some argument stirring, I've already been contacted by some about the post above me.

I must agree on one thing, which is that it would not be a bad idea to make such video's available too, to long standing members, who have made this forum a welcome place for newcomers, who helped out where they could, offered their help, as staff, or as testers..
Why would some guy that walks into a store someday, never having heard of ship simulator, get to look in the kitchen, whilst the people that have been here for years, bought every single product so far, but just don't want to pay an extra ammount of money JUST for a booklet and a video, miss out..
But hey, that's what a CE is, it has extra's that you can only get that way.. but I would perhaps have thought about a discount for customers that can show they allready have paid for the game content once.. Or something like that. Not everyone has the money to go paying twice for the same game+addon, and that's perfectly understandable..
But a lot of these people have made lots of efforts in the past.. and compared to new players, that step into the series, they deserve it more, if I had to be honest.
Regards,
Fred

Where did you get that silly idea?
There are many forum members—CMMs, beta testers, moderators, administrators, and others actively engaged in developing ship dynamics and other things for both 2008 and Pro. Few of us are maritime engineers or officers.
You don't get to help by making an application; you are invited to help on the basis of what you have demonstrated that you can do.
How many missions have you made? That is one way that CMMs are chosen—on demonstrated understanding of the mission editor and the way missions work.
CMMs, in turn are asked to do beta testing, not only on SS 2008/10 but on Pro.
There are many ways in which one is allowed to contribute to the development of SS, and thereby to see behind the scenes. But first you must show that you have the ability to do something, and sufficient interest in the success of SS.
You should also try not to do anything dumb—like trashing the efforts of the developers.
