Personally I don't like Norton, I have nothing but problems with it.  It can also cause a strain on your PC due to the amount of resources it uses ::)

My own personal opinion ;)

I hear Bullguard is very reliable, they also do a gamers version....it doesn't update too often when you are playing an online game, good idea if you ask me ;)

Bullguard isn't, the best ones are always the ones you have to purchase ;)

There is a free trial though:

Take a look at F-Secure ( www.F-Secure.com ).  It's an alternative, and the one I found when I got tired of Norton's antics.

Cheers,
Michael

I have used Bullguard now for a year and it is up for renewal. I am not going to do it though.

I have seen too many times where I have installed a program and it has downloaded up to 4 mb before Bullguard decided to ask me if the program should have permission to download.

Bullguard does update virus definitions often and it has a good online support.

I am going to check out the Trend Micro now.

Currently using Kapersky (trial version) can't fault it, it's excellent, but not sure on the price  (it's quite expensive).

I've also tried Windows Live Onecare - not too impressed with it.

As for free editions, I can recommend either AVG or the much more competent Avira AntiVir Personal Edition. PC Pro rates the latter very highly indeed - it caught 92% of all threats, whereas the best (Kapersky) caught 98%.  Bullguard scores 86%, and AVG 83%.

As for Firewalls, ZoneAlarm is probably your best bet, unless you're using Windows Vista.

Orinoco: As above, I do recommend zonealarm 100% but forgot to say that if going for that option, get the combined package including virus and firewall. The firewall is the best I've found.

I find that at times, Zone Alarm can cause some issues, but usually a reinstall fixes this. I also find that Zone Alarm can be quite intrusive into what I'm doing, whereas Kapersky stays nice and silent (until it finds something). Once Kapersky has run its 'training' mode, and figures out your standard network traffic, it leaves you well alone.  ;D

I've never had a problem with zonealarm interfering. Not like Norton. That was always popping up (deleted it in the end).

Not used kapersky at all, so can't comment.

I will NEVER use Norton or Mcafee again, they are both inadequate. In particular, Norton is vulnerable to being disabled by malware.

I've tried alot of different security programs, MacAfee, Panda, Norman, Norton, F-Secure and so on. NOD32 is the one that I like the most, it provides a very safe and easy-to-use system to a very, hehehe ;D, low cost and low CPU usage. Norman antivirus is, in my opinion, a VERY unstable security system and should not be used by anyone anytime. The company providing it seemes to be very unserious and It's not a recomandation.
