Title: Any F1 fans?
Post by: RMSGreatBritain on March 17, 2009, 19:34:50
Any F1 fans here? I ask because its the start of the 2009 season very soon, and so I just wondered if anyone else will be glued to it. even if they have changed the rules so that the driver with most wins is world champion instead of most points, I hope this year is as a good as the last.

And yes, I am also sad enough to get up at 3am or whatever it is in 2 weeks to watch the Australian grand prix.

any other fans out there?

Absolutely can't wait. Even the new silly BBC advert which has Fleetwood Mac on the end gave me huge goosebumps. I hope McLaren fix their rear wing today (last test day), because that would be a small downer if Hamilton was stuck with a rubbish car. But yeah, absolutely can't wait. I've been playing F3000's on Race Pro to try and tick me over. :)

Turns out the race is actually at 7.00am UK time, brilliant! Thats 5pm local aussie time, meaning its basically an 'evening' race, which sounds quite interesting. and helpful to me! ;D a few more hours to sleep, I dont know when the BBC program is actually starting, Dunno If it'll be 6am UK time or what. But ill find out on Sky. still waiting.........................

good news for us british old chaps and mclaren supporters, Mclaren look to have sorted out their problems. They set the 3rd fasest time, behind the one and only Brawn! :)

This year is going to be exciting..........

Hi, welcome to the forum Markitus.  :), friendly word of advice though, You might definatly want to edit that last word ;)

I dnt think Alonso will ever go to Ferrari, Thats what they've got Kimi and Massa, two great drivers. And I wouldnt say Alonso is rubbish, He's won 2 world championship, He's just an arrogant selfish B****** who doesnt like Hamilton.

and by the way, I support Hamilton! ;D

I assume you mean today against Watford, I went and we did try very hard, good game for the most part except the scoring bit. I hope Pompey stay up aswell, good win over Everton, well deserved. anyways, back to F1....

I hope Williams will be competitive again, I support them as well! ;D
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?

i think this year will only be Ferrari vs McLaren
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?
Post by: RMSGreatBritain on March 21, 2009, 21:36:58
Naaah, I think we'll see more teams getting in the mix for race wins like BMW, Brawn, Renault maybe even Williams and red bull (i hope). I expect the title to be between ferrari and Mclaren in the end though, but it would be good If we could get to half way through the seaosn with drivers like Hamilton, Raikkonen, Massa, Alonso, Kubica, heidfeld (of whom Im a big fan), Button, Rosberg, Vettel all in with a chance. :)

dont know why the fianle is in Abu Dhabi though, would prefer it to be in Brazil, what an atmosphere there is at that track-Incredible! Samba Sao paulo! :) :) :)
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?

Having watched it now for 18 years, I honestly think we're currently experiencing the best of Formula One that I've ever seen. History is very kind to the era when people like Damon Hill (who deserves to be a legend just for Hungary 1997!) where at their best. I wish I could've seen Prost and Senna go at it live, but I can't complain. I got to see Michael Schumacher make himself a sporting icon, and the many people he battled before he left (Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Montoya, Raikkonen and finally Alonso). Now there's a handful of drivers that could easily take the title this year as long as their car holds up, and the car with number 1 on the front is being driven by an Englishman again. I can't wait for Friday.
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?

The previous two schumacher-less years have been epic. We are having the best times of F1 since ever actually, Although the 70s were great for their small team entries and huge entry lists they used to have then. :)

But in terms of excitment and closeness in the final standings then the last two seasons have been incredible! and the best. Hope its like than again, and I want to be on the edge of my seat again all through the season, like I was last year! :) ;D

so from watching practice, Ferrari, Williams, Brawn, Toyota and possibly Red Bull in the winners mix for the race.

Looks like Mclaren could see a few races before being challenging again this year, and this could make Hamilton very far away from the championship, so for the next few races:

COMMON ROSBERG! hope BMW and Button do well on suday aswell, but we'll have to see.............

At first i could not belive that Rosberg was first! But i've noticed that his winning chances aren't that bad!

Such a good driver Rosberg, could finally have a car to prove it. I dont know why, but I take a shine to the germans, Rosberg, Heidfeld, Vettel and BMW.  :) Of course I like Lewis and Jensen more but there is something about F1s german brigade thats likable. Plus Mclaren and Brawn use Mercedes engines. And rosberg drives for Williams, who I love as well. Im supporting the Brits and the germans this year, hoorah! ;D oh,and just the one finn in Raikkonen, and an Aussie in Webber. YAY!

Chain, BBC, DC and Eddie Jordan were amazing, Jonathan Legard is the first good replacement for Murray Walker yet, practise commentary from David Croft and Anthony Davidson was amazing, and then we see a Brawn 1-2 followed by Vettel and Kubica.

And the race hasn't even started. I honestly can't believe how good this is looking, not just the F1 itself, but how good the BBC are pulling it off. One very happy, very tired man about to go to bed. :)

I couldnt agree more Jayshum, apart from the bed bit, pah! I've got a busy day today, I dont need rest. But the BBC were truly brilliant and there was even some good banter between Humphreys, Jordan and DC. great all round weekend this is turning out to be, even if Lewis will start 15th.  :) We've got another Brit to liven things up......... ;D

Lewis Hamilton has been given a 5 place grid penalty for changing his gearbox after he lost drive in Q2.
Both Toyota cars have been disqualified from qualifying, so they are starting from the back, from the pit lane.

How the stewards came to the conclusion that vettel was the only one that caused it is beyond me.
As Michael said "He (Vettel) was on the inside - he couldn't make his car dissolve into thin air,"
Kubica was a bit above himself for trying to overtake and not giving much space for Vettel.
Brundle did say there would be a crash there only just before it happened on British Tv coverage.

i also think that it was Kubicas fault but the german moderators were pretty sure that is was vettels fault

kubica just didnt give Vettel enough room. I think the punishment was more for the driving 2 laps with 3 wheels rather than causing the crash ;)

The ten place grid demotion for the start of the Malaysian GP was for the crash.. The stewards confirmed that. ;)
The $50,000 fine was paid by the team, as it was the team that instructed Vettel to keep going with a heavilly damaged car that was only running on 3 wheels.

To be honest, I thought it was quite clever of them to keep him out. As soon as I saw Kubica crash, I knew the safety car was going to finish the race, and I actually said to my brother that they should keep him out. So in my opinion, it wasn't fair, especially when compared to similar things from years gone by (Schumacher comes to mind). F1 is very confusing rules-wise, seems to change every week.

I initially thought that too, and it was clever. however It was also stupid because of all kinds of safety issues involved in that.  ;)
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?
Post by: Jayshum on April 01, 2009, 11:05:28
Actually, there's no issues of safety involved there. The safety car takes them up to a maximum speed of 120mph, and the cars are designed to run on 3 wheels at speeds of 150mph (not picking on Schumacher, but a good example of this is Spa 98, in heavy rain!). Also, there was no chance of his tyre coming off as it's basically tethered to the axle. The FIA really need to start running the sport better now. Everyone's noticing the renewed energy that's been injected into it this year already, so they need to stop being corrupt b******'s and govern properly. Bear in mind, I lost my last bit of faith after Spa 2008. I love this sport, but it's being run by idiots.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised that the race was so exiting, what with the KERS and the new tyre-rules..I may even watch another race.. ;D
Title: Re: Any F1 fans?
Post by: Jayshum on April 01, 2009, 13:45:30
KERS has been a surprise for me, definitely. I thought it was just going to be a gimmick, but it does add a new level of fun to it!

Not to go on about this too much, but this video proves that the governing body behind the sport is broken. 3 years old, but still highly controversial in my opinion.

isnt it funny how the greatest sport in the world is run by idiots? No it isnt actually, The FIA are just pathetic, and like Jayshum I lost complete faith in them after spa 2008. However, the sport itself is brilliant and if it wasnt for the silly FIA could be more popular than football if run right.

so on a lighter note, Who are you backing for Mlaysia? Its barrichello for me... ;)

Not surprised at the decision. lewis and mclaren lied. they should've been honest, especially how much the FIA hate them. mclaren need to restart the season in Malaysia, start afresh, and have a 16 race championship instead of 17 as they forget about Melbourne...........
