Title: liquid cooled pc
Post by: Minime on March 02, 2009, 22:15:18
Has anyone experienced this? I've seen you can get it on some of the alien ware computers, so you think it would be better than normal fans?

I guess maybe if it was cold water.

its alot better, handles heat much better, allows for more over clocking and quieter operation

Then that would be on the checklist when hopefully in not to long Ill buy a new computer

If your not familiar with computers, I would have a professional install it (if you don't buy it with the computer) since you could cause serious damage.

no chance I would do it myself, hopefully Ill find a pc that already has it installed

No liquid cooling in my PC, i haw try ed it, right from a manufacture after 1 month it start to leak from CPU and it go down to graphic card. in short, my PC sad poof and shot down for ewer, a PC to 30 000 nok in euro about * 8
well i got a new pc but with fan cooling, so liquid cooling never more

I think I'll stick with my computer as it is, unless I buy a new one in the near future, if I do, it will only really be for the next Ship Sim verison. As I don't need it to perform for anything else really! Apart from sketchup, when the poly's get up a bit!

Jack :)

Atleast i would pressure test the hoses, to prevent a hughe lightflash followed by eternal darkness  :P

I've heard of liquid-coolers for cards and processors, but an entire case is maybe too much..
There are also very good fan-coolers..

Well the reason I wan't is for SS10, but I also wan't to play GTA IV without it freezes and textures not showing

Here you haw 3 god graphic card  and weary and you nearly hear it
i know you can read some Norwegian so see here

And a god cpu fan without nonce
http://www.ps.no/ArtDtl.aspx?i=129563
and the best  and that i use
http://www.ps.no/ArtDtl.aspx?i=136166
here you will haw  god cooling and low noise

Thanks for the links. Yeah I can read almost all norwegian words I think, and many swedish too, sounds almost like the same to me, after all Icelandic, Danish, Faroese, Norwegian, swedish and Icelandic once was the same language I think

Yes you haw right, wee talked the same language one ti,e, but it about 1000 years ago do  ;)

yeah long time ago that was, would be fun if that language still existed

Is exist today, if you take your and Island language together, it's nearly the same and Islands languages   was the language in Norway and you know rune writhing? that was wee all 4 country wroth that time, BDW wee can still learn the old Nordic language like that vikings talked

Oh yeah that reminds me of an book one of my teachers talked about, I think she said that it was written with that language or something like that

Getting back on topic, I've never been impressed with liquid cooling for PCs. It seems an expensive way to get the same end result as a good fan.

PS a lot of English is the same as Scandanavian, for some strange reason...

i would stay on normal cooled PCs!
liquid cooled is only expensive and isn't doing a better result at all

Not to mention possibly ruining everything inside your computer.

Liquid cooling is verry good, much better then fans.

When we are talking about loosing heat.

It only is usefull for when you want to experiment with overklocking cpu, vga, ...

But, for a normal system without overklocking, it works just as fine as fans.

It isn't going to make your pc faster, and it takes more maintainance then a normal computer.

So I would say, don't do it if you don't know much of computers and aren't going to overklock.
And, it is verry expensive! For a full set you need at least €200!

You need a pump, reservoir, radiator, fan and cooling elements (for cpu, vga, northbridge and maybe even memory)

How loud is the pump?

What's overclocking? Something like turbo charging your pc?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

Quote
Overclocking is the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer, usually practiced by personal computer enthusiasts seeking an increase in the performance of their computers. Some of them purchase low-end computer components which they then overclock to higher speeds, or overclock high-end components to attain levels of performance beyond the specified values. Others overclock outdated components to keep pace with new system requirements, rather than purchasing new hardware.

Users who overclock their components mainly focus their efforts on processors, video cards, motherboard chipsets, and Random Access Memory (RAM). It is done through manipulating the CPU multiplier and the motherboard's front side bus (FSB) speed until a maximum stable operating frequency is reached, although with the introduction of Intel's new X58 chipset and the Core i7 Processor, the Front Side Bus has been replaced with the QPI (Quick Path Interconnect); often this is called the Baseclock (BCLK). While the idea is simple, variation in the electrical and physical characteristics of computing systems complicates the process. CPU multipliers, bus dividers, voltages, thermal loads, cooling techniques and several other factors can affect it.

I don't have it.

But I think the pump isn't verry loud.
Much calmer then a fan.

What next, two stroke strimmer engines running computers? *Brum....Brummmmm...BRUUUUMMMM-Smelly classic two stroke smell and noise*

Nice idea, but as I said earlier, I think I prefer the idea of the fan, call me traditional

sounds like I shouldn't aim for a liquid cooled then? Probably best to look for a normal fan cooled then, well I won't buy a computer until SS10 reaches the Faroe Islands

All things considered, it's probably better to spend the extra money on a faster processor, more RAM or better video card etc. You'll get much more improvement for the money you spend.

If i want to cool my computer, e.g. when running Folding@Home on the two separate GPUs in my graphics card i just take off the side of the case and have a big fat fan blowing on it. Without the fan it gets to 105°C which is the limit but with case off and fan on it gets down to 80 maybe 90°C tops.
Liquid cooling is just for people who are hard core gamers or similer and need it for things already mentioned like overclocking
