Title: Classic Games or Modern
Post by: [RWP]DJM on July 27, 2007, 00:21:43
Hiya all :)

Just a quick poll on which type of games we all prefer ;)

I personally love classic games, but I also enjoy the new ones......except Aliens versus Predator 2 (scares me half to death).  Games weren't that realistic when I first started playing them (1970's), but I still love them.  My favourites are from the 1990's onwards :D

My top 5:

1.  Magic Pockets (Amiga)
2.  Turrican 2 (Amiga)
3.  Project-X (Amiga)
4.  Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
5.  Starwing/Starfox (SNES)

Please post your top 5 if you want to ;)

Regards.

AAH? There are so many. I dont know where to start. ??? ;) I like both old and new. Well the first gameing system was was from the 90s I think (I think it was older then I was at the time ;)). it was like a box that the games were square boxes and it had rectangle controalers.

The OLD silent hunter

Mario( I had a fiew of them)

Cant remember the rest.

Remember resetting the tape counter so that you could rewind the tape back to level 1 again after you died?  Those were the days....we never wanna see again lol

I've just realised, classic games to our younger members will be 'What was the name of that game I got last year?'

Ah, what it is........err........was, to be young eh :P

Ah, but the only way they can know classic NES titles is through the VC on the Wii. (Although that means thet didn't spend £30 on them back in the day)  :P

I like all kinds of games, but I really have a softspot for simulation games, because they show what really is possible with the computer technology today. By the way did you know that fsx (newest flightsim from microsoft) had more bugs in it than ss2008 when it was released? It was unplayable, causing major crashes of my computer everytime I tried to play it longer than 5 min.  >:(  At least you can play ss2008, the bugs will be fixed I´m sure, I like what I see allready ;D ;D ;D

Does Wing Commander count as classic? I suppose it does now...

The AMIGA version though. (does anyone know where I can buy WC for the PC?????)

DJM: Thanks... You're making me feel old reading this ;)

Oh no you don't.

Wing Commander was the bet 3d game ever made (at the time for graphics) even now for gameplay.

The first game I ever spent any significant time with was the original "Adventure" which even the 30-year-olds will hardly remember.  I was very pleased to find that the early versions of Windoze had a built-in cheat for minesweeper that involved the password "xyzzy".

If that doesn't mean anything to you, it's OK.  Don't bother telling me.  ;D ;D

Cheers,
Michael

Hey, you're too young and wouldn't be expected to,  :D but it's a text-only game that ran on institutional unix (university, etc) computers until it was finally ported to Heathkit and then PC. It's about exploring caves, and the first few levels are an accurate representation of a real cave.

Cheers,
Michael

That's what you call a classic eh ;)

Would you believe that the first game I ever programmed was a text adventure, took 6 months to write, 3 months to debug lol

I've just remembered one of my other all-time favourites:

Lotus Turbo Challenge II on the Amiga ;D

Greetings,
I use to play space-invaders,and a game with rocks and a small spacecraft(dont remember the name anymore).
I liked this very much.
Now i'm no more playing these games because i cant find them on computer.
And all my time goes into ship-sim.
Regards

WOW!!  Now I feel really old....Lemmings was released in 1991, I was the ripe old age of 19 at the time ::)

Still, gotta love those Lemmings eh, great fun ;D

Someone gave me a copy of lemmings (original) and it still wasn't as much fun as the old Amiga game.

Sad. sad. To think we all used to spend hours on that game.

Would that be the Win '95 one by Dice?  I have that....quite like it personally.  It's not as good as the Amiga version I agree, but still good for a game occasionally ;)

OK, to be blunt. It bored the rump out of me.

Whether I have become (more) long in the tooth or what I don't know but suddenly Beachy Head was looking an attractive place for a walk.
