Title: blackholes
Post by: Packack on February 17, 2009, 23:02:34
i know this is space way far away from ocean :o but is it true that to many eclipses in a year will cause a black hole?

No.

OK then it's not true thanks.

Nope.

Black Holes are caused by stars collapsing after they have exhausted all the fuel in the cores. They have to be large mass stars, much more massive then our sun. Gravity overcomes the radiation pressure, collapsing the core and sending shock waves crashing through the outer layers. The core becomes so small and dense, that the gravity is so strong that not even light can escape. The minimum radius is given by the Swarzchild radius.

Nothing at all to do with eclipses, which are just when the Moon passes in front of the sun (Solar) or when the moon passes through the Earths Shadow (Lunar)

Actually it's the Schwarzschild Radius. So-called after it's postulator, Karl Schwarzschild.

The Schwarzschild Radius is given by the mass of the black hole. It's "common name" is the event horizon, of course.

Hi Terry,
That myth may be due to the fact that a lunar eclipse produces a “black hole” in the star field. An iceberg can also produce a black hole.
Regards,
Marty

Yep. The Schwarzschild radius of an iceberg is exactly the same size and shape as the iceberg, apparently.

If there are more than 5.000 eclipses a year, you can start worrying.. :)

Also, a black hole happens when my sister Crystal gets hungry. Everything within a 6 mile radius get sucked in.

Probably not true, (not even possible) but still...  ;)

Hmmm, there was quite a lot of concern as regards to the Hadron Collider causing some bother and sucking is all in  Silly I actually believed some of it, thinking about it now ::)

But.....Man will eventually destroy earth, I don't think it will be in my time, or anyone elses time here, But I think that, earth is on a cycle, I think it is much older than we think it is, I also think that time and time again, life forms have been on earth, then eventually wiped out, whether it by there own doing, or by something else.

Thats just my opinion anyway.

Let's just hope that we don't get a blackhole close to Earth.

Well if we do you won't know about it anyway will you ;D

Heck I was watching outside waiting for like a wall of nothing to hit me that day... Nothin...  :sleepy:

That's because the LHC wasn't working at full power (not that anything will happen anyway) and now it isn't working at all.
I don't think the proton streams (if that's what you call them) were even lined up for a collision

I programmed you all to think that.

I am the supreme black hole of the universe, of course.  0

For black holes are fuzzy, and have no hair.

And probably the rest of the solar system if it's big enough

it is possible in another universe, where different conditions & laws of physics exist, that eclipes could cause black holes !

No. I just checked them all to make sure.

The only thing total solar eclispes do that is weird is that they really mess up the rotations of a type of pendulum that I can't remember the name of. Normally they just swing and the earth spins round them, making it seem as if they spin, but when there is a solar eclipse their rotation pattern gets messed up somehow nd I don't think anyone knows why ??? Anyone here know about that?

Well, they say there is a blackhole in the middle of the Milky Way galaxy, but they also say that a moment that happens ever 25,800 years where the earth goes to the center of the galaxy, and that's in 2012!!!!  :o :o :o
probably nonsense, but still, the scientests whouldn't lie... right? but there is also a massive solar storm predicted, and there is a hole in earth's shield from solar flares. ALSO there are alot of predictions of WWIII, and the mayan calender ends in 2012...  am I really thinking this stuff is real?

Oh, man!  I though this topic is hopeless dead but now it's again alive...  And now it'll be as usual the hottest topic during several weeks like all those we have here about ends of the worlds, bermuda triangles & squares & someones vacations - making annoying everytime it appearances in the "unread posts/replys since last visit"  :P

Hmmm.... Interesting subject this. I'm glad you've re-opened it, Jack.

This talk of parallel universes- there was a theory from a chap named deSitter- who theorised that there were parallel universes and if there were different energy densities (or something technical like that) then one would 'leak' into another- in the same way that water pools will all come to the same level.

I'm sure that Dr Terry & others will have some useful comments about this... I can't make sense of Prof. Hawkins books.

Most blacholes are found in the center of a galaxy. Andromeda and the Milky Way got blackholes for a center focal point.

The Earth's Shield from Magnetic Flares is the Earth's magnetic Field, and there isn't any holes in it that I am aware of, so no real fear there, although a really strong one could penetrate a bit...

Also, the Earth Orbit's the Galactic Core, and thus goes around the black hole, and not through, and we are about 2/3 of the way out, so that is a long way, no fears there...

The earth is a vit further away from the centre than that... we're right near the edge.

I think there are more than one black hole in the galaxy. Maybe the LHC will make some more

i think if lhc make some, we will disappear up our own black holes

Particles hit the Earths atmosphere all the time with greater speeds, and we are still here...

do they hit with the same concentration though? Personally, I think the news hype about it was ridiculous, for the reason you state.

... That said, do Higs Bosun particles hit the earth often???  :o

I think a lot do hit, not sure about the concentration, but it is a continual bombardment

No one has seen or observed  a Higgs Boson, so who knows...  ???

No one has seen or observed  a Higgs Boson, so who knows...  ???

That was exactly my point  :o  There are 2 ideas if it goes wrong, i)that all matter on the planet will slowly change to XYZ particles over the course of a week and we'd all know it and be unable to stop it. or ii)that it will happen in nanoseconds in which case we would all-
