Well, I know its not really a game but what ship did you first use when you bought the game? For me it was the RPA12. In Marsellie. ;D
Edit: Everyone is also saying their environment, so I changed the name.
-
I'm not sure but in the first mission I did I used the speedboat, (back then my computer couldn't handle the large ships
-
I always remember what was my first, it was the Sherpa, in Marseille ;D :D
Jack.
-
The Red Eagle in the Solent.
Biceaus I was verry curious for the Voith Schneider propulsion.
-
SS06 -> Port Authority Vessel in Rotterdam (I think)
SS08 -> Arie Visser in Rotterdam (pretty sure)
:)
-
The RMS Titanic, still one of my fav's
BTW, Fred, does this not belong in Small Talk?
-
I guess it could, yeah, even though it's also a general SS08 related topic, I figure.
But yeah, let's move it to small talk, where most of the other forum games are too.
Done. Cheers!
Regards,
Fred

Do you accept bribery?
Possibly if it is Marmite.

Hope this isn't considered a bannable offense by bumping a topic after all this time...But I'd rather post than just sit here lurking. :D
Anyways, my first ship in SS08 was the HoverTravel Freedom 90...I took it for a spin around the Isle Of Wight, and then promptly got it stuck on what I believe to be the royal yacht squadron's jetty (that's what the actual lettering saying 'royal yacht squadron' was closest to, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)...I should have really taken a picture, but...D'oh...Silly me, I forgot... It's probably easy to recreate though, just get the hovercraft and ram into the jetty at moderate speed. If you can't reverse or drive off of it, job done.

You can revers it-use the thrusters
-
I'm pretty sure I tried using the thrusters and it didn't work...Or at least, it worked to a certain degree and then the F90 wouldn't reverse anymore, it'd just 'stay' there, like the power wasn't enough to get it dislodged...But never mind, all I know is I'll be staying the heck away from that jetty in the future.

You need to be hoevering for them to work-and be patient for them, they take a while. ;)

Well, if you mean by hovering having the 'lift' engine set to high idle (100%), then I did that, however, the note about the thrusters...I'm pretty sure I was stuck there for around 30 seconds waiting before I called it a day...Surely that would have been enough time for the thrusters to take effect? What I mean by that is, I've noticed it does take around 3 seconds for the thrusters to take effect in the latest version...And back when I first used the Freedom 90 I still had 1.1...don't know if there's any difference there...
Perhaps I'm looking a little too deep into this... :-\
-
It is possible to jam the hovercraft so tightly into a space that it will ever get out. Or you can get it hooked onto something.
Remember that the engines don't reverse. In fact, by applying reverse thrust, you may actually be wedging Freedom 90 in, even harder. Best to cut them to zero.
-
Yeah, I think I did the latter, got it hooked onto one of the posts of the jetty...I'll have to go hunting for more stuff to get the Freedom 90 stuck on. ;) The reverse thrust thing is rather strange, it may be possible we're talking about different things here...I mean, in a recent free roam session with the Freedom 90, I shut off both of the rear propellers, leaving only the lift engine going and switched the 'thruster' funnels on the front so they were pointing towards the front...whaddya know, it reversed all the way back into Cowes before I got bored and did something else.
Perhaps you meant thrusters as in the rear propellers? I've heard it used to describe the rear propellers of a hovercraft before, but not often..
-
Sort of.
For the thrusters, the engines stay in "forward", but you swing the direction of the nozzles round to move it backwards.
For the main fan propellors, they don't reverse. The controls look like they do, but the fans don't work in reverse (deliberately).
-
For me...I think it was the Red Jet 4 in Portsmouth or the Pride of Rotterdam in Europoort - now which one is more likely :P
-
I think it was Ocean star in Rotterdam.
-
HI guys Im not a new member,I just had to re-register through my own stupidity. My first vessel was Titanic.
Regards Jim.
-
SS2010 => Not telling you! But it's excellent!
Ooh, you are cruel, sir! ;) ;D
The Water Taxi was the first vessel I ever played in the Ship Simulator series when I downloaded the demo. I loved it so much that I bought the SS2006 game
In SS2006 my first vessel was the Harbour Patrol.
And in SS2008 it was the Arie Visser (rescue boat).
-
Also I guess you could say for SS06 (Demo) It was the harbour patrol boat.
-
I used the Titanic or the pride of Rotterdam in marsille still trying to remember though.
-
I used Titanic in New York before I even got any patches!
I also went straight for Titanic in SS06, too.

No surprise there though. And in SS10 if it will be in it, you will probably go straight for Titanic. I usually make my favorite ships the last ones I use. You can't neglect the other ships you know. ;)
-
for me it was pilot boat in hamburg
-

Yup ;D
I plan on taking the game out, putting it in my comp, and going as fast as possible through the menu until I start playing as the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.
And if Titanic is dropped? I'll leave a memo here on the forums saying not to buy SS10 or any future Ship Sim game until Titanic is confirmed to return ;D
-
Like me with Titanic? ;D
*Enjoys view*
*Notices that something is missing*
"...."
*Can't stopthinking about the missing detail for the rest of the session*
-
Yeah, like again unsatisfied with Titanic, no matter how many patches there were! ;D
Jason will no doubt adress these issues, it'll just take time.
I know that 1 or 2 months before SS08 was released, he started making threads on the TRMA with pre-release images of his model as it would appear in SS08. I hope he does the same for 2010 ;D

Just out of curiosity, have you even used the other vessels? All of them? Are there any you haven't used?
-
Yes, Firestar, I have used all of them. My 2nd favorite vessel is Ocean Star.
And, Diamant, have you ever noticed Titanic's name missing from her stern along with her port of registry? People don't have to be experts to remember that bit ;D My theory is Jason will put it on as a finishing touch to signal it's done, but that's just me....
I also always find her funnels bare with no steam pipes.... At least Jason seems to have those up there on his list along with rigging, judging by how he said they'd have to wait for the "next update"
I can hardly wait!
-
Don't say "finishing touch". Those words are usually involving Marty to every topic to inform us about some secret things about modelling:
You have been saying a lot of un-nice things about Marty here lately. Marty is just telling us the truth and you shouldn't be mad at him for that.

I;m suprised you're standing up for him!

Just because people disagree sometimes doesnt mean anyone should say something about anyone. We are all a community and we should all be happy.

Somehow I think that will go widely ignored...

Gentlemen,
The bad-mouthing of any other members will stop now or I will take appropriate action.
Do not post responses to this messge, just take notice.
I am very serious. :police:
-
Mmmm, for me, Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.
