I tried it and the Titanic will just not move. I have cast off all of the mooring lines and yet the ship still refuses to move.
Has anyone else had this problem?
-
I haven't tried it so apologies if I'm stating an obvious point. You do know that it takes a long time to start moving? If 2006 Titanic was too fast, this one might be too slow (some say).
Other than that, can't help I'm afraid.

Please make the Titanic Mission better!!!!
- I need tugboats in the harbours.
- I want to see the icebergs ahead, not left from me.
- I want a cherbourg Stop on open sea and the Nomadic bringing me people..... (its only a wish).

Have you tried asking it nicely to move?
-
I played this mission, she's very slow. Let go fore & aft and the put the engines to full speed with a touch of helm to Port, then go make yourself a cup of tea, a sandwich and pop down to the local for a quick one when you get back she will be on her way.

The real ship takes about 2- 3 minutes to reach slow ahead (8kts) from stop. From 12 kts 18 knots takes about 4 minutes. So the acceleration decreases with speed, gradually flattening out. It may need tweaking a bit, so that it accelerates faster from say 0 to 10 kts than it does from 10 to 20 kts. Right now it seems the acceleration is linear.
Anyway, it takes a minimum of 10 minutes to reach full speed from stationary.
-
i also had the problem that i had to make a very big left turn to ''going to avoid'' the icebergs,
and the ship moves very slow in the beginning
-
I had her on full throttle, the rudder was turned port, the mooring lines had all been cast off and she just sat there. There was a bit of swell from the rudder but that was it.
So it literally takes AGES for her to move anywhere
-
FINALLY got her to move. Took about 15 mins for her to ease away....then she banged into the dock cos there aint enough room for her to turn. Didn't do any damage though so that's ok

Hey! The ultimate unsinkable titanic... never leaves the quay! ;)
seriously, if you've seen the boring 'film' titanic (and havent gone mad from boredom) it shows titanic moving from the quay under quite a bit of acceleration (and then runing full out towing a tug...). Not a realistic film..

Sorry, I missed this post and can support jason210 fully.
I add a graph coming from the acceleration trial I made of Titanic, it clearly shows the flattening of the speed curve, as well as the decrease of the acceleration. It corresponds -tentatively- with a towrope (effective) power some 20300 kW if the end total resistance was 162 tons (metric).
Edit: Also the hypothetical resistance curve and the propellers thrust corresponding to the other graph.

People have been forced to speak to counsellors and psychologists for lesser things than that.

Hmmm......so you're saying I need help?
Ah well, I'm not bitter, I always need help :P

I have spent a few days on and off try to get into the channel. I have found that its possible to almost capsise the titanic in harbour at under 3 knots. I dont think this is really what would happen.
Just as I was getting somehwere too !
Do I get points for finding a bug ? ;D

You can have some points for those nice screenshots... ;) :D

Wow!started that mission tonight then realised it could take some time and there's no save feature >:( (yet...)and my titanic had a minor list to port that puts mine to shame. ;DAlso upgraded from Nvidia geforce FX5500 to 7600GS today, the difference is unbelievable speed, graphics and performance generally have just improved so much, alot happier with the game now. :)

This is the way I do it:

1. Set engines to dead slow, don't turn the rudder before she starts to move
2. When she starts to move, turn rudder to port.
3. Set starboard engine full ahead, the port engine full astern.

I agree, there should be some changes in the mission (and I love your wish) :)

why don´t anybody modify the Titanic Mission? One of the Betatester with the SS08 editor can place some tugs at Southampton and New York!!!!!!!
-
i have done this mission 5 times with out any problems sooo i can't understand why you have problems??? ???
-
Are we starting from the correct place in this mission? Is this the great Atlantic terminal - or maybe what's left of it. Any way when moving off I can't seem to go ahead (even on just the Stbd motor and full port helm) without dragging along the quays. If I try astern and get out in the channel before swivelling round she grounds as we are only just in enough water.

I agree. Please, can some betatesters modify the mission, please! :)

There should be an easyer and mor realistic way to get Titanic out from Soutamton, and then you need tugboats. So that is the problem, my friend. :)

At least some of you have managed to finish the mission....
Leaving Southampton was fine, got out in to the Solent and to the first objective, loaded the Atlantic.....invisible ship!
Couldnt do anything as you can imagine so I restarted the mission to find the screen crossed with mooring ropes with no ship attached, in the middle of the Solent.
Another bugged mission then, wonderful. I seriously am looking forward to the patch :(

Andy

Also had this problem. I had to restart the game in order to fix it.
