Do you mind telling us why this topic is useless? And, use your brain, if he posts that site on the forum, people are going to click it, which means they may get this virus too... Surely that's obvious?

Oh no NathanC, Gloat is asolutely right in insulting someone who did something good who is relatively new. Anyway well done on the getting rid of virus thing. What was it doing to your computer?

My father had the same idea. The anti-virus program I have on my computer is cheap and rather useless.
Stupid virus? Smarter than the average computer user.
Okay then, how about stupid person who made it?
-
What site was it?
And AVG is good, also download AVG rootkit protector, those are fast searches, and you should scan your computer like, every other day or at least every week :P You can set AVG and all other virus protectors to auto scan, as long as your pc is on.

Find them and kill them, I say.

I use Norton Anti Virus. And then i was stupid and downloaded a program called XP Antivirus 2008 from the windows update.
and then i couldnt uninstall it. then the virus shut the the pc off forever.
But to the case. you should do full computer scan and try to remove them. :police:

Hi Captain Best.
You didn't get XP Anti Virus from Windows Update. You'd picked up a trojan/virus earlier and it fooled you into thinking that.
Here's a quote about XP Antivirus:
XP Antivirus 2008 is one of the latest counterfeit antispyware that devastates the wolrd wide web. XP Antivirus 2008 usually come up after you installed a video codec that come with Trojan, malware and virus. XP Antivirus 2008 normally generates fake and misleading system popup error messages so end-users will be tricked into purchase XP Antivirus 2008.
Here's a site that gives you instructions on how to remove this vicious software:

I use Bullgaurd Anti Virus, it covers everything, Spamfilter, Anti Virus, Firewall, allows you to create backups. And the technical support is excellent! I find it to be a very good piece of software, and even if a virus does get onto your system, Bullgaurd will find it straight away and put it into "Quarantine". From there, you can delete the virus, no more problems! ;D
I would recommend it to anyone, I used to have Norton Antivirus, and that let through a virus that corrupted my system, last Christmas (not the Christmas gone). And Even though I could still use the system, I couldn't delete the virus. Whereas with Bullgaurd, it seems to sort anything.
Jack.

I was looking up some information about New Horizons (not from www.shipsim.com) when the virus came. I noticed that my fallwall was off (I had to turn it off the other day after Xmas day to install and test my Nintendo Wi Fi connectior that I purchased with my Xmas money). I turned it back on, but SOMEHOW it got turned off. Now, Windows updates won't turn on, even if I try.
The site where I got the virus was from a Google search of New Horiozns. I believe we will install AVG and unstall Avast Anti-virus because it is no good.
