hi peoples, I was just wondering, do any of you like motorsport? I do, even F1, which is of course one big fix. I also used to love the BTCC, when it was at the brilliant years, but its not as good anymore. But I also love motoracing video games, my favourite being the TOCA race driver series. And that means that in my view Race Driver:Grid is the greatest video game of all time. So, do any of you like motor racing video games or motor racing in general?
-
I love motor racing games, some of my favourites are:
Gran Turismo 4
Toca Rade Driver
Toca Race Driver 3
World Rally Championship
Test Drive Unlimited (PS2)
I hope to get Gran Turismo 5 and Race Grid Driver soon
-
Yes I like the DTM (german) and also F1 of course
-
I allso like realistic racing games.
I play Project gotham racing 4 and test drive unlimited.
But I hate the need for speed games biceaus they are verry unrealistic.
I love Top Gear on BBC2.
Greatest show ever! ;D
-
F1 is the one for me,there website is pretty good too, 8) 8)
-
Race Driver Grid is the best investment you will ever make Nathan. Im not a fan of project gotham racing, I like circuit racing rather than street racing, except if its round Monaco in an F1 car! I hate Need for speed aswell sam, Mainly cos I am about as talented drifter as james may! The WRC games were cool, Not as good as colin macrea though (RIP Colin-True Legend)
I fell in love with toca the moment i stepped out onto the eurospeedway lautsitz in Tom Kristensands Merc on TRD3 almost 1 year a go now, super times, best racing game ever. And now theres grid, unbelievably good! And the best damage model ive ever seen.
-

My favourite motorsport F1, Lewis hamilton-best racer ever, he will be a true legend, although hes gonna makeit hard for himself! ;D Although the F1 video games have always been a bit disappointing. Except F1 2009 will be with codemasters-creators of TOCA race Driver. Oh yes, F1 2009 will be a true racing game! ;D
-
I think some of will love this site that i am an Admin on:
www.igcd.net
Just search for the game, and a list (with pictures) will come up with all of the cars in that game. All the screenshots are taken by the admin when possible. My profile is "CrazyCars" ;)
I even added Ship Simulator!
-
I am a big Moto GP fan, I watch every race.. My favourite is Valentino Rossi
I'm so glad that he signed up for another 2 years..
-
Moto Gp here as well - think Rossi will toy with everyone then win the races next season ;)
-
I like Rossi hes good. I like the DTM series aswell, more glamorous than the British Touring Car championship, But less action. GP2 is pretty cool aswell
Thanks for that web link by the way Nathan, top job!
-
Yes, a shame my favourite commentator team won't be on Moto GP next year on Eurosport..
Julian, Toby and Randy..I will surely miss them..
-
I've actually been to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany but when the computer was rebuilt i forgot to back up pictures :o
Shame, i had a picture of Ralph Schumachers Mercedes C-Class DTM car >:(
-
Racing cars are the pits.. :P
-
Nice Nathan
Racing cars are the pits.. :P
I can see your not a car racing fan SD, just bikes I guess for you.
-
Yep, watching cars go round is like watching paint dry.. ;D
-
Yep, watching cars go round is like watching paint dry.. ;D
It didnt used to be like that. For example the BTCC in the 90s, exilarating! 1992 for example, anyone of 3 drivers could have one the championship on the final lap of the final race. Thanks to a clash between two drivers, Tim harvey walked away with the crown!
-
Yep, watching cars go round is like watching paint dry.. ;D
This isn't exactly boring ;D :
Soper's BMW had come all the way from the back, it was the final laps and he had almost made it...then he got taken out by the Vauxhall....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCij9mYIokA
That's probably the best race of BTCC that's happened for a long time...
-
Yeah it was, and great commentry from Murray as always! :D ;D
-
I used to like F1, untill it got boring..
But diffrent strokes to diffrent folks, eh.. ;D
-

Yeah. I found that what made it boring was schumacher winning all the time, but he was a great racer! Hamilton has livened things up a bit. I still watch every race because sometimes you get mad and insane races with lots of crashes (without injuries I hasten to add) and spins and all sorts. Usually that involves rain, so basically I watch every Grand Prix in the hope of rain or something funny to happen. (Aslong as no one gets hurt). Plus rain means hamilton usually wins,or comes 5th! ;D, so thats good.

Hehe that was on Top Gear,
I love cars and I also agree that Race driver Grid is one of the best games ever, just waiting for the PC DLC for it to come out now... (It's got Nissan GTR and McLaren F1 in it :D)
Top Gear is great not only for the cars but also for the humour. Looking forward to the vietnam special
I used to collect scale model cars (1:18) but I've kinda stopped now cos there isn't much space left and they get damaged.
F1 is good and it isn't as boring now cos there isn't a clear "leader" and there is a different winner/podium most races

Couldnt agree with you more-Top Ger is the best show on earth in my view, and Race Driver Grid is simply the best racing game ever.

My dad used to do "Banger racing". And Hot Rods ;D Quite well known back in the 70's-80's! (He's "Getting on" a bit now).
Jack
p.s. I'll see if I can get some pics.
-
I like F1, GP2, Renault Series, Isle Of Man TT..
Top Gear is the best motoring program.. I prefer it over Fifth Gear anyday. ;D

Yeah Fifth Gear is just bad. Its not even funny, I sometimes die of laughter when watching Top Gear! :D
-
Did anyone see the last Top Gear episode? They tried to beat Fifth Gears record of Jumping cars with a Caravan in-tow. They failed, but it was still entertaining and funny to watch ;D

That was funny. They tried to do that at bentwaters in suffolk, not ever so far from where i live. My friends auty sometimes sees them attempting to do these things cos she works there-I guess at a store there cos there are like window and shed stores and conservatory stores in old hangars and things round there
-
Just a little off-topic question.
Topgear on BBC2 just stopped does anyone know when its comming back?
Or is there still topgear on an other channel.
-
Top Gear will be back on the 28th for a Final Special show.
-
Yeh i think it is set in vietnam
-
Yes-They've been to USA, They've been to botswana, They've been to the.....Isle of man, And now, they've been to, VIETNAM! That is gonna be hilarious!

I love Motor Racing (especially Formula One). I've been to Silverstone twice, Spa once, and I really want to go again next year. I've watched F1 since I was 5, and it's my sport.
Game-wise, I played all the Playstation F1's, and the first 3 Gran Turismos. Then when I turned to Xbox, I had the EA F1 Championship Edition, and Forza. Now on the 360, I've only got Forza 2 (which doesn't look very good compared to the competition), and is as boring as watching paint dry. This year's looking much better though. SIMBIN are bringing GTR to the 360 with Race Pro in February (GT, TC, and F3000 and F-BMW), and then I think in July, Codemasters are bringing out F1. I personally can't wait to play an F1 game again, but I'm hesitant at getting excited for it because I loathe what they did to the Toca series (as in, take it away from Simulation, make it more arcade-like), and Colin McRae. They've promised a sim in every way though, so I'm willing to give them a chance. :)
By the way, if it wasn't clear already, I hate arcade racing games.

He he, Yes the Race Driver series latest edition grid as been 'arcadified' but Its not a proper arcade game, its a cross between sim and arcade, and I like that, Although I also like the seriousness of TOCA Race Driver 3-brilliant game-as is the whole Race Driver Series. I have always thought the F1 games have always been less-than-what-was-expected and have all been a bit dissapointing. However I think F1 2009 will be superb!
-
Would there be a chance that F1 2009 game will be released for the PS2?
I doubt it as the last devs (Studios liverpool) said that they were limited as to what they could put in their f1 games due to the hardware in a PS2..
Just don't have the money to buy a new Xbox 360 or a PS3.. Even if I did I wouldn't know which one to go for..
-
i like american Nascar :)

That is very unlikely becuase they are using the same game engine as in GRID and DIRT, which is simply too big and complicated for the PS2 to take, so I would say no. by the way, PS3 is better! Although for me PS3 vs Xbox 360 was more like Gran Turismo 5 vs Forza Motorsport, if i got an xbox 360 i could get forza, if i got a PS£ I could get gran turismo, and so i went with PS3.
i like american Nascar :)
Ive seen some of that its good. I like american motorsports, especially the American Le Mans series and the SPEED world challenge. I dont like the fact that the USA isnt too keen on F1 mind.
-
i like american Nascar :)
I think it is pretty stupid caus they are allways driving in ovals.
But I think I better don't say that in Alabama caus if you know what happend in Top Gear ;D
"Im calling the boys" :P ;D
That episode was hilarious.
But I love Le Mans.

That Top Gear was funny. Le Mans is brilliant. I think that nascar isnt as good as other motorsports because of the ovals, but it is unique in its own way.

i like watching touring car racing thats preety awsome :) merry xmas by the way

If anyone likes rally racing, don't forget to follow the Dakar..
It starts in Buenos Aires on January 3rd.. ;)

The Race Driver Grid intro, pure brilliance:
-
Christmas tomorrow, i may have to see about getting GRID if i get a PS3 *Crosses Fingers* ;D
-
Your getting a PS3? same. I dont actually own a PS3, or even grid for that matter, but ive played on it round my friends alot, Probably done 1/4 of career mode round his, And its awesome. However I do believe that will change tommorrow!
-

I don't want to sound like a spilt brat, but i hope so!
-
whats spoilt about getting a PS3? Nothing. If you were truly spoilt nathan youd of had one as soon as they came out.
-
I like Midnight Club 3, it's a street racing game where you can custimize your car.
-
I never liked street racing games. Give me a simulation anyday!
-
I didn't think I would like it either, but it's really fun!
-
I don't have a ps3 cos I use my computer for gaming. Has anyone seen a pc side by side with a ps3 cos it would be interesting to see which has the better graphics.
-

Depends on what graphics card you have on your PC. a simple one will be crushed by PS3, but the top of the range one will be a PS3 graphics challenger :D
-
No I mean as in the actual game so if you put all the sliders up to maximum on a computer game e.g. Grid would it match the detail in a ps3 or xbox?
-
wohoo, I bought Race Grid Driver today, can't wait, looks really good on YouTube ;D
-
i have grid.. Its awesome

Hard to say, graphics on PS3 are pretty awesome, but absolute maximum should just match the PS3 graphics I presume.

Nathan its absolutly incredible! There is not a wide range of tracks, but you hardly notice. I dont like drifting, But i love the le mans series and touring cars. And the fact that you can do the le mans 24 hours is brilliant, I like the pro muscle and prestige race types aswell. only problem with the game is i dont think there is a multiplayer offline mode.
-
No matter how good a graphics card you have, it'll never beat playing a PS3 Game on a Full HD Television :P
-
And if you add the HDMI cord you get SUPER graphics
-
Guys, you're being unfair to the Xbox here. It comes down to a simple choice if you can't choose between them (and I can say so, because I have both, bonus of working for developers!).
The Xbox 360 is far, far superior to the PS3 in every single way except one, and that's HD films (Blu-ray). The social experience over Xbox Live introduced me to friends all over the world, and got me (believe it or not), my job (albeit temporary one) working for Rockstar North on GTA4 (music dept). The friends system, achievements, gamerscore, messages, video-chat, they all help to build an amazing experience. Plus, games that are released multi-platform (GTA4, CoD4 are the 2 that come to mind) are much more immersive (and look prettier, regardless of what the stats might indicate). Just to follow on on that, the 360 did hold GTA4, but it was much easier to work on that platform that it was for the PS3 (thus the glitches I suppose). CoD4 utilizes Xbox Live to perfection in my opinion. I've been playing a lot of Cage Match lately (1 on 1), and even though there's been about only 300 people worldwide (not just in Europe, like PS3), I've found games nearly instantly. I could go on and on, but I'll quickly post about the good things about the PS3 so I don't seem to be biased (I'm not a fanboy, I don't align myself to one thing, I just choose the one which for me has given me the best experience).
The PS3's Blu-Ray function ruined it from the get go (£450 at launch), but is currently saving it from flat-out losing this 'console-war', with it's ability to play HD films. I just got the Dark Knight on BR for Christmas, and it's genuinely breath-taking. So that's one thing it does well. I also think Home could be something big, but not until Sony open up PSN to a world-wide service, and not just a region-locked one.
Game-wise, there's not many Playstation franchises that I'm a fan of (I loath Metal Gear Solid, much prefer Splinter Cell in that category), but Gran Turismo is the finest console 'automobile-showcase'. I call it that (as I do Forza) because they're not great racing games, they get boring, but GT:5P looks life-like, and that's amazing in my eyes. The addition of the F1-2007, and Suzuka, well that's a match made in racing-game heaven! It trounces Forza 2 in every way, but that's got nothing to do with the fact it uses blu-ray discs, or apparently has more power inside, it's got everything to do with Polyphony Digital being masters at making games.
Finally, I can't comment on Little Big Planet, because I really don't like games like that anymore (I'd have loved it if I was 5 years old, but not 23!). Here's a quick pro/con list for James mainly, but it could help a couple more of you open your minds!
Xbox 360
Pro's:
Fantastic Online Play
A huge array of brilliant and enjoyable games that you literally get lost in. Halo, GTA4: The Lost and Damned, Gears of War, Splinter Cell, and Forza for online racing, are all in-house to Xbox.
It's the most social console, Xbox Live being open to the entire planet, and not just restricted to your continent. I have many American and Canadian friends, and I can't play with them on my PS3. :(
Xbox Live Arcade: Uno, Sonic (the megadrive, and best versions), Castle Crashers, small games you download. ALL have a free trial you can download, before you buy.
The Recently added NXE (new dashboard) added one amazing new feature, Party Chat. It enables me to talk to up to 8 people, whilst we all do either the same thing, or our own thing. e.g. I could be playing Call of Duty 4, whilst one of my friends play Halo, and another watches the a film (or plays Ship Sim on the PC). ;)
The controller is the best game-pad made to date.
Con's:
Older console models, built prior to May 2008, have I'd say a 50% chance they'll suffer the RRoD. I've lost 3 this way, and waiting 2 weeks for a replacement every year is a pain in the backside. This has finally been addressed according to some friends I have in the industry, with this new model that should be on shelves now (uses a new CPU called 'Jasper'. No relation to Carrot).
It can't play Blu-Ray. You can download HD films from Xbox Live Marketplace, but they're nowhere near as crisp as they are on the PS3.
PS3:
Pro's
Built-in Blu-Ray drive, enables you to watch HD films at their best.
Has the Gran Turismo series on it.
Con's
Not many other games to choose from. If you loved Metal Gear Solid, or you love children's style platformers, then the PS3 has you covered. Apart from that, the only other exclusive is Resistance: Fall of Man 1 and 2. I found they absolutely paled in comparison to Gears of War for example though. It's meant to be a trashy, interactive action-movie, and it took itself far too seriously for me.
Controller feels cheap. It's far too light, and is really uncomfortable for me to use. Whenever I play mine, I use a modded Xbox 360 controller anyway, so that's no problem for me.
Both consoles are as good as each other at displaying games (Full 1080p), both of them have HDMI ports, it's just the Xbox 360 has far more to choose from. You'll find things like framerates and anti-aliasing to be much better on the 360 though, and the social experience is outstanding. Whether you just meet and play with people, or you argue with a small-minded American at 2am in the morning who thinks you have bad teeth, and make love to the Queen on a regular basis, crumpet in one hand, cup of tea in the other, I just find it a lot better! (sorry if the last part is offensive to anyone ;)).
Quick summary.
Xbox 360 if you're a competitive, harcore gamer.
PS3 is it's just for racing games, and watching films on Blu-Ray.
EDIT: sorry for going hugely off-topic, but we're all Racing game fans, so I just wanted to elaborate a bit.
-
The Xbox 360 is far, far superior to the PS3 in every single way except one, and that's HD films (Blu-ray).
Now you're being unfair to the PS3! Before i got a PS3 i used to play CoD4 at a friends on the Xbox, and the graphics are far superior on the PS3, even using my rubbish 90s TV in my bedroom - if you want the best graphics get a PS3 with a HD TV, like we have downstairs.
My Dad's playing Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge right now, and the graphics look like real life, seriously.
-
You can get blu-ray for pc, play on beyond-high-definition resolutions and online is free aside from isp costs. But I apologise for going off topic. Race Driver grid is probably the best driving game at the moment, and doing drifting online is very fun, if annoying at times.
Jayshum you didn't mention computers
-
Im not into drifting on race driver grid. Circuit racing is my thing. le mans series and touring cars-brilliant! Driving a Koenigsegg is brilliant in the prestige series aswell! and the zonda, and the aston martin DBR9, .....
-
Have you got the ps3 dlc with the volvo c30 and mclaren f1 and nissan gtr amongst other extra cars? It costs £10 nd isn't out on pc yet. One of my favourite tracks is probably jarama for just driving round and trying to get good laps, and the demolition derby is great with the immense damage model.
-
I havnt got the dlc yet. I need to get an etha-something-or-other cable so I can use playstation network. then i will be able to buy the dlc pack. It looks good with the mclaren and Volvo touring car, the sooner I get networked the better!
-
lets try not to argue about the PS3 and Xbox war.. We can leave that to the companies
-

Yeah well said! I know enough about PS3 vs Xbox wars to last me a good year.............
-
Anyone heard of "Race Pro"?
http://www.igcd.net/movie.php?id=10000663&width=1280
Looks interesting, only available on Xbox360 though :-\
-
I've seen that. Its mainly based on the world touring car championship, but with supporting formulas aswell. Looks good, shame its only xbox exclusive :(.
On another gaming note, I cant wait for codemasters F1 2009.
-
I'm looking forward to Race Grid Driver, the touring car championship looks great.. ;D
1 More Post to go....
-
Race Driver Grid nathan ;) :D
The touring cars are great. I love how on race driver grid you make your own team, design the livery and choose sponsors, and choose a team mate, although I change my team mate quite often becuase they all have their prefered race class, so a touring car driver trying to do Formula 3, not succesful. So I change my team mate evry time I try a different class of racing.
and 999, dont dial that number unless your on fire, just post one more ;)
-
My team mate is Antonio fidanzi and he's generally not good at much but he was cheap at the start so I've stuck with him. If you stick with them long enough they seem to get better at driving the different cars. So the first few races in an unfamiliar car they will be rubbish, but soon they will be challenging you.
P.s. Just got Wi-Fi so this was sent from my iPod
-
from your ipod, nice! :) You say about keeping a driver for a long time because its cheaper, but you get to a point in the game when it doesn matter, Currently I've got about £27.5 million just floating around in my teams bank account doing nothing. Still, at least I can buy any car that I want! :D
-
Yeh I know what you mean. Do you know where you buy the Porsche GT3 RSR? Cos I've got all the others and I can't seem to find it. ???
-
I dont actually. That is an interesting topic, I've seen it in the GT2 class of the le mans series but on Race Day mode there is no sign of it, Neither can I find it when entering any race mode of Grid World mode. So whether its just an unplayable car or not i dont know.
-
I'll have a look next time Le-Mans comes round.
-
I think it is in Le-Mans. It was the only car that put up a fight
-
Its wierd that, Bit of a car thats hard to find :)
-

Playing it right now. :)
By the way, was just my opinion on the PS3/Xbox thing. As I said, I'm not strictly tied to one console (that's why I have all of them!), but the 360 I find is much better. Nathan, I said GT:5P looks amazing as well, along with the F12007. ;)
-
If you are liking simulation then you should really try out www.lfs.net - Liveforspeed Racing Simulator
Check this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoHSi7I2lCc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoHSi7I2lCc) - The steering wheel is not running smooth only because its online and its taken from a replay that video. When in your car *live* then its completely smooth.
There is only a few real life cars and then the rest is fantasy cars, very realistic though. The simulation game is made by just only 3 guys!! And has been improved with patchs since early of the 20th century.
-
i dont like that game much. I dont like how the point of view is in the middle. it should at least be from the driver side. And since when did a race car have a radio and A/C
-
no game will ever beat grid. I say that, me and a friend were doing a 2 player 7 race Formula Williams championship yesterday on TOCA race Driver 3. Awesome Championship, awesome game! so much depth, For sheer amount of racing and sheer amount of championships and circuits, TRD3 is the best, but You cant beat the racing thrill of grid. or the damage. Its awesome. Anyway, after all 7 rounds of our Formula williams championship I won, wahay. Before that we did an Aussie V8 supercar 7 race championship, we were tied at the end on points, but my friend won the championship on virtue of more race wins. anyway, what was my point of this post again, oh yeah, i dont like live for speed and the race driver series is much better. ;D
-
Race Driver Grid arrived today ;D
Love the Graphics, and the damage model is impressive!
-
Once I get sorted out with my network connection in my games (Playstation network works fine, just tried FIFA09 and it kept loosing connection, need to sort that out) Me and you Nathan will have to have a race against each other!
-
I need to sort mine out too, need to work out how to connect the broadband whenever i get around to it.
-
I need to sort mine out too, need to work out how to connect the broadband whenever i get around to it.
Yeah mines wierd at the mo. currently I can use playstation network but not multiplayer, wiered!
-
Now I can do Multiplayer, yay! ;D well, on Race Driver Grid anyway.
-
i realy like STCC the game the realistic is awesome!!
http://game.stcc.se/
-
Has anyone heard of FUEL? looks great, tornados and sandstorms in off road mad races through mountains, desert and all sorts, where you can go anywhere in an environment of 5000 square miles, thats 14000 square kilometres, and in a square thats over 70.7 miles each way! Its like Race Driver Grid meets Colin Macrae Dirt meets GTA. Its amazing!!!!!!!! :D cant wait, it comes out in 2nd quarter this year, but dont count on that entirely.
-
I wonder what sort of system requirements It will need, seeing as the details on the cars will be twice as good as in Grid
-
If its on PS3 or Xbox 360 it wont matter, but probably loads if you get it on pc.
-
I ordered Colin Mcrae Dirt the other day from the interweb, i've heard loads of great reviews, is it good if you happen to have it?
RIP Colin mcrae :'( by the way, what a great man.
-
RMSGreatBritain.. do you play grid on PS3. If you do i just wanted to see if you wanted to race
