STX Europe launched a web-based competition called the BlockDocker. It consists of two series: Innovative and Oasis. In the Innovative series, the aim is to design a cruise ship of the future, keeping in mind the demands of tomorrow such as eco-friendliness and entertainment innovations.
The Oasis series challenges the competitors to build a replica of Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise vessel in the world, currently under construction in STX Europe's shipyard in Turku.
The catch is that participants are supposed to design both of the models using an online design tool provided by LEGO.
The winner of the Innovative series will fly to Miami and supervise his/her model being constructed at the Cruise Shipping Miami event March 16-19. The winner of the Oasis series will be awarded an Oasis of the Seas engraved Apple iPod music player, as well as three models of his/her own Oasis LEGO design. The winner model of the Oasis series will be used as a corporate gift by STX Europe.
The competition ends January 9. See www.stxeurope.com for details

He he, If you want to see my work then go on the LDD Gallery and look at my ships. I have accounts as UKGB, UKGB2 and UnitedKingdomGreatBritainLine. There is a wide range of ships on there. Take a look and see if I am just big headed or not.

I dont know but I havent bothered
-
Just googled ldd gallery and searched in the username bit for ukgb, ukgb2 and UnitedKingdomGreatBritainLine and it didn't find anything
-
In the creation name search box type in Cruise ship. Click on the first one in the top left. Then click on the username where it says UKGB2 and see my ships. Ignore the ship that you click on by the way that was delibratly ugly as a mickey take out of pride of america and NCLs F3. To see my models of UnitedKingdomGreatBritainLine, Search creation name 'Ship' and go to page 10. Top Left, and follow the username link. To see the models of my UKGB username, Search cruise ship again and go to page 8. top left one, follow the username link. Alot of my UKGB models was when I was inexperienced, its the latter ones that you want to look at. By the way there are even some river cruisers on UKGB2
-
A screenshot of my entry into the innovation sector. Ofcourse its not finished, But the hull is pretty much done. Its called Ocean Inspiration.
-
That's good, I'm still researching, trying to find out a little bit about aerodynamic, I think it will be useful
-
Thanks

Doesn't seem to work?
-
what do you mean doesnt seem to work? Maybe you have to be a member to see the gallery.
-
RMS
Perhaps you do!! If you do as you say and put Cruise Ship in the first box it comes up with one very poor model and nothing else. If you try to input your user name UKGB2 nothing comes up. Funny I would have thought Lego would like to show the gallery to encourage other users.

That is really wierd. But your right, the username search function does not work. But I have an idea, Copy and paste in the following URLs into the URL thing up top(the links given that are only half the urls dont work, but pasting the whole thing will):
http://factory.lego.com/gallery/?parameters=2||3b47f759-6956-4d3e-9222-3333fb089329
http://factory.lego.com/gallery/?parameters=2||b05faf6e-034c-4e41-80c6-7313eab6406a
http://factory.lego.com/gallery/?parameters=2||6c6c650c-f179-4a28-a16b-49f5facf4a47
If that doesnt work then I dont know what will! Will you be entering the competition by the way Mike?
-
Those don't work either, look at your post and you will see that there are faults in your links
-
They werent sposed to be links, they were sposed to be things to paste into the url box. Paste the whole line of each one one at a time.
-
RMS
Got it now!! Those URL's work when the whole lines is pasted. Some very good models there!! Do they take as long timewise to make on the PC as they would in real blocks?
Mike
-
lol! funny! ;D
-
It's going to be a hard competition, I wish you all good luck
Oh BTW great ships, RMSGB
-
lol! funny! ;D
What's funny??

Make lego ships!

Mike
They are probably quicker to build. The way you can paste things and put bricks on in mass cuts time.
Thanks for the complements, I guess youll be entering, All us entering should keep each other informed about our models. Good luck.

Thanks Minime

Whats funny about lego? I use it alot as a good simple design tool. It doesnt matter how old you are, You can always build with lego

Oh I see well thats good then, will you be entering the competition?. I am in both catergories
-
Have too see if i got time :)
-
Ah OK It is definatly something worth winning
-
Short deadline, not sure I will have time
-
It wont take that long to build will it? Not for me anyway
-
You are an expert, I would be a learner!!
-
I am going to build an SWATH vessel, but it's still in planning.

Sounds good, Im going for a Catamaran style cruise ship, although Swath and Catamarans are basically the same thing
You are an expert, I would be a learner!!
Well the program is actually very simple, and Im sure your a good learner, you should pick it up very quickly
-
If you played lego when you were younger, it will help, atleast it did for me
-
Yeah It does, now I use LDD as more of a design tool
-
If you have any questions related to the competition, they will soon get answered. I sent a email to them, asking about a forum or something, and they said they would probably set up a FAQ or something
-
Right then, here is my Oasis category entry for the competition. When its put on the gallery after its been checked you will be able to download it and have a closer look:
-
nice job, are you also doing the other category?
-
nice job, are you also doing the other category?
Yes, although I have a feeling Im will have to go quite fast to get it done cos mines massive! by the way, have you finished yours yet?
-
No, I'm strugling with the hulls
-
How? Upload some pics and Ill give you a few tips
-
It just takes long time to do, since I'm not really sure how to do it +you have to build it, so it later can b built with real legos without falling apart, I haven't done much in the program, but I got it all on paper
-
Is this for the oasis category or inovation category?
-
it is the inovative category, I got some great plans
-
Cool. Right, well, It is easiest to copy and paste things when making the model. For example, in the picture is shows part of the keel. Highlighted in green is the paste box. press this, then select the whole of the thing you want to paste. When it comes up, fit it to the other part. Make sure that the parts will fit. Look at the diagram for a good idea of this. This makes the process much quicker, and you can assemble the ship faster:
-
I use the copy and paste option a lot, but it hard to build it so that it wouldn't fall apart if it was built with real lego
-
Ok, well make sure the keel is thick with bricks, which would then hold together the ship a bit better
-
Hehe.. Go LEGO!
I used to have tons and tons of it as a kid. I came across that LDD program too quite some time ago, and made this fictional old warship (7000 bits, IIRC).. though it's not really realistic in scale and all, of course, LEGO has its limits.

awesome model fred! and yes scale is always a problem with lego! I once made this awesome model of Titanic once, best Id ever seen on LDD (big head again ;D) but for some extraordinary reason It would not let me upload it to the LDD gallery. devastated I was, I loved that Titanic. However I've still got it, so heres some screenshots:
-
That one was very nice! ;D
[edited by Terry} Come on, you know that's a swear word!
-
indeed it is ;)
-
thanks guys :)
-
and yours to madfred, very detailed
-
yeah Freds is awesome! ;D
-
;D
Thanks guys! :)

I havnt actually properly submitted my oasis catergory entry, but I will do. ;)
-
well the competition is now closed. I noticed there was one extremely good oasis of the seas by someone else that could win it, but lets see.
