Title: Azipod Controls ( Jumbo Javelin)
Post by: moyeraj on December 11, 2008, 17:27:00
I have searched extensively, and have not found any directions for using the Azipod controls on the JJ.  The only information I have found is that :
Green circle is speed ahead.
Red     "        '"        astern
Blue circle is vessels direction.

It would be nice if there were some instructions for using the Azipod in SS.  I know I'm not able to use a most fascinating feature of SS.

Hi Moyeraj,

There is not much more to say than the three lines in your post.

Look in topics on Ocean Star or Bug 2 for more basic information.
Remember that, unlike those two ships, JJ’s AZ drive is quite small and is not used for propulsion underway. It is not an AZIPOD, but a retractable thruster used only for dynamic positioning and low-speed maneuvering.
That subject has been covered in many posts.

The best way to learn is to just spend time in free-roam experimenting with it.
Regards,
Marty

I have tried using it to "wind" the JJ in New York harbor and I don't see much effect.  I guess I will go back and spend more time with.
Thanks for your help.

The AZ can move JJ crabwise only a knot or so in conjunction with the bow thruster. The AZ is located aft of amidships and moves the stern faster than the bow. You can set it for max thrust and adjust the bow thruster to balance it in order to come alongside the pontoon.
