im watching that now
-
Lol did you see the ship hehe i could not stop laughing.
-
Funny, perhaps, but ignorant: Titan is a moon of Saturn, not Uranus.
It might be a good name, though, for the longboats the people of Pitcairn Island take through the heavy breakers at Bounty Bay.
Or, for the motor lifeboats that the Hole-in-the-wall Gang take out of Depoe Bay, OR.
-
I saw that it was hilarious
-
Ships really do have funny names.
Dad just bought a fishing boat called Forty Winks haha
Jack :D
-
Hi
TITAN URANUS is not a fanny name. Perhaps it seems to be funny to you because you don't know what are TITAN and URANUS.
TITANS, in Greek mythology, were Gods, before the 12 Olympian ones (Zeus-Poseidon-Apollo-Ermes-Athina-Aphrodite...).
URANUS (means SKY) was the Titans' father, therefore a Titan, and GAIA (Earth) was their mother.
If you want more information about Titans the link will help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_(mythology) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_(mythology))
As you can see TITAN URANUS everyway is not a funny name.
Best regards
Thanasis

I was thinking of you the other day Jack.
We were driving into west seattle. There was 1 container vessel being offloaded, and then on the side of the road was a little boat on a trailer, right on the stern it said Capt' Jack. :)

Well, here is one of the longest ship names ever: FLIEGERKOSMONAUT DER DDR SIGMUND JÄHN. They used to have two rowes at the ship to paint the whole name on it. :D
Guess nobody knows this hero nowadays!?!
-
As I recall, Dr. Jahn was the first German astronaut—cosmonaut I guess, because he was in the DDR and flew on a SOYUS. He later worked for the ESA.

Or if they made a ship called Uranus, The orderers of that ship would check in with the ship builders asking "Is Uranus done yet?
-
I was thinking on imagining a fiction ship with the name called "Long Lei."
-
I have a huge list of funny names that I've seen on AIS during those long hours on watch. Dont know where my notebook is at the moment but from memory:
Ducky Shiny
A Beer
Flipper
A Elephant
Mr Omar
Ginga Panther
Loads more but as I say, will have to whip out the notebook.
By the way, they might not be that funny, but they were at the time :)

That would be funny for "A Elephant because It would be "An Elephant".

I was on the Ave Lubeck (ex pau cassals, ex dawn merchant) when she was chartered by T-Link to run from Palermo to Genoa and became the T-REX, there was actually talk of painting a great big dinosaur on the funnel until the charterers realised how much it would cost!
Who the f*** calls a ship T-Rex?
EDIT: she was actually the T Rex rather than T-Rex, those nice chaps at the MCA pointed out that you are not allowed to use symbols such as - in a ship's name under the UK flag.
-
I was flying around shipais one time and saw near Dublin a vessel called 'Willy' ;D
Ah I can be so childish :P

You win..Only the Russians can think of such long names..
TCHETYRNADTSATAIA GODOVSTCHINA OKTIABRSKOI REVOLIOUTSII - in English it'll be:
The 14th Anniversary of October Revolution
PYATIDYESYATILYETIYE SOVIETSKOY GRUZII
50 Years of Soviet Georgia
So it's just the long words in Russian language... ;D
-
Then the 50 Let Pobedy is longer in English.. ;D (50 Year Anniversary of Victory)
-
Earlier I thought it's usually Dutch ships that have long & hard-to-spell names if it's a one-word name.
Once in 2003 I saw in our port Wagenborg's Oosterscheldeborg... It'd be easy if it was Ooster Schelde Borg though.
-
Many years ago there was a Dutch passenger liner called "Johan van Oldenbarnevelt". That was quite a mouthful.
She was named after a Dutch statesman of the 1500/1600s who fought to free the Netherlands from Spanish rule.
-
Here's one from shipspotting, Onrust ;D

My grandad used to deliver ship paints to ship yards ... he let me come with him some days.. the funniest one ive seen was Called don't panic ... it was funny because the name was on upside down so if the ship capsized it said dont panic;D
-
I bet it's one of the few 2-stroke tugs in the world.. ;D
Salty, most large ship's engines are actually 2 stroke engines.
