We had this a whie ago from "y".

Nobody really writes like that. Its what is known as an "affectation".

In other words, being done to make the user think they look "special". It certainly makes him/her/it/them look "special" to me...

Or maybe it is being done because he/she/it/they know that it will cause trouble? The "lock thread" button looms near.

The "lock thread" button looms near.

How about the "ban" one, if this continues (Like it has)?

Terry,
You must have missed the part where he said he’s a Scot. It’s an affliction.

Marty

Hi Marty.

Whch tartan is that one?

The Russell tartan is shown below. It's the hunting tartan, which may be appropriate in this thread....

Stay on track lads or terry will upset himself...............

You mean that this thread has something to do with the Titanic?

Golly, you can translate gibberish well, can't you?

Terry,
It’s the Smith tartan. It may have been worn while hunting Russells, accounting for the similarity and confusion.

Marty

How in the world did this thread get from shouting off the deck of Titanic to Scottish Tartan?

Mods go where they like Nathan!! If you noticed, I posted earlier today suggesting that they did not deviate from such an important topic track.

I think i spotted the exact moment it went off topic;

15:57:24

There really wasn't much use in this topic anyway, so *shrug*

A logical progression, Nathan, as it was basically about Scottish culture. Specifically: In imagining speech in natural sounds, or in this case the sound of un-synchronized triple-expansion reciprocating steam engines.

I am afraid that I do not agree with you, the Titanic was, as noted many times elsewhere on this forum, built in Ireland, Belfast H&W to be exact.

Well there is really no use in typing the way you speak. It is hard to read and makes you look stupid in my eyes. Hopefully we all know how to read and write, so we can all at least make an effort to write correctly.

I would hate to be his English teacher, that is certain.

As with all useless topics this one has turned into a home for chatting about random stuff. It goes like this:

1) Topic Created, useless content
2) Few members come along, tell the poster how much of a jerk he is "what has this got to do with SS08" etc.
3) Starts to go gradually off topic until you end up talking about Tartan, Marmite or Terry's old Hillman Minx.

Very black and white Nathan!!

To keep on topic, I was going on line for MP this afternoon but have been too busy here!!

Mike,
What has the fact that Titanic was built in Belfast with defective rivets to do with the topic? We were discussing Scottish culture as it applied to the author of the topic, not to the Titanic.
Nathan, what have you got against the Hillman Minx? I drove one in the 60s and found it to be a good motorcar. I even traded up to a Sunbeam Alpine during my “Stirling Moss period”.

Nathan, it was not about “Shouting off the deck”, but about the ocean talking.
D’ye no ken Gaelic, mon?

Why should we let an inherently useless topic go to waste? Recycle…

Just to complete it, then.

Hi Marty. Yes, Hillman Minx. My old one is shown towards the top right on the Album cover of te Beatles Abbey Road (red and white, 1954, 3 forward gears, 1 reverse, bench seat at the front, so column change gears).

There, Nathan. Now we are complete. You did forget

"Some kid tries to act like a grumpy old man" in your list of actions, though...

If the author of the topic had wanted a discussion on his presumed Scottish parentage then he would have called the topic that in the subject line!! He didn't and wanted the discussion to be on Titanic!!

I agree the Hillman Minx was a fine car. as a boy I always coveted the Riley derivative!

Thanks

Mike

Mike, the topic was not the Titanic, but his auditory hallucination that happened to take place on that ship.

If he didn’t want his Scottishness discussed, he would not have specifically mentioned it. Nor should he have attempted to write in Gaelic.

Of course I didn't actually point at you. But if you want to wear the Victor Meldrew hat, that's OK.  ;D
