I haven't tried them, but a hardcore simulator buddy of mine has a pair and he did not like them at all. And he and I usually have the same taste in these things..
From what I gathered from the 'review' he gave me, you'd be better off with a TrackIR device to add to your sim rig, if you havent got that allready, Terry. That does more for the immersion than a pair of those glasses, so my mate also said. His TIR is always on, and the glasses are in the attic, in the box of old pc equipment, so to speak. So that means a lot to me...
But hey, perhaps you like them, it's personal I guess.

Hi Terry,
About eight or nine years ago I got a pair of i-glasses. They were fairly low resolution as I recall—1/2 VGA maybe. They came with an inertial head-tracker and adapters for both VGA out and TV.
Technology has probably advanced since then, but the few 3D enhanced games that came with it were about as exciting as watching Bwana Devil.
If I can find where I stashed it, I’ll try to give a more comprehensive report.

If I understand the technology involved, the device is fed the same information as the graphics card. Because of the information it receives, it knows which objects are in which layer (Questviewer and other games engines draw things in layers).
It then applies differing degrees of shift to each layer to model the illusion of depth. In theory that should work well. Practice may prove different.
I wish I could find someone who actually has a pair of these ones. Ideally that they've used them with SS. But they're proving elusive.

From reading the first link, it sounds like a left/right blink system looking at the existing monitor rather than glasses with LCD displays.

Yes, I'm assuming that it is an on-off switching or fading of the LCD crystals in the visor, and that the monitor/graphics card do the graphics work in this case. Principle is the same, though. But I don't know what sort of flickering that might produce.
Would be marvellous to find someone who has used them. I'm asking on some of the train simulator sites as well. But so far, no-one.

Hi Terry,
Shutter systems that simply shift the horizontal sync work somewhat less effectively than schemes to get 6-channel surround sound out of a pair of stereo speakers.
And yes, the flicker can produce a Gran Mal.

Oh dear.
Maybe I need to search for some other present for my wiife to give me. (It's a good arrangement that ensures I get presents I want, so long as I don't select other attractive blond Spambot to unwrap on Christmas day).
It works extremely well as I will have completely forgotten whatever it is that I selected by the time it gets to Christmas. (I am the archetypicial absent-minded professor).
