Unless this isn't the more well know ship I think you mean, you're going to start the R/V Knorr as a model. ;)

Also if you have any questions about modeling, just ask I'm sure you've seen my work. ;D

Do you have permission from Knorr's owners? If not, you can render it all you want, but if it gets in Ship Sim, it would be modified to the point where it isn't the Knorr anymore!

No links involved you must either E-Mail them or just snail mail them to ask if...   ...I'd talk to AriesDW about that if I were you but after talking to another modeler, Like Me ;), about your model once you have started.

Good luck with R/V Knorr firestar,
Having done two legs of expedition GEOSECS on her, I’ll be interested in how close you come. Do you plan to model her with the original VSPs, or with the re-fitted propulsion?

http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,2550.msg27295.html#msg27295 (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,2550.msg27295.html#msg27295)

This is an early picture of her. The appearance aft can change radically from expedition to expedition depending on requirements. Often, as in the picture, her lab space is augmented by containers on deck.
Bob Ballard had his control room in a pair of containers converted to a doublewide when he found Titanic.
Regards,
Marty

I forgot to mention that you may need to get permission from the Pentagon. R/V Knorr is owned by the US Navy.
I’m not sure about her armament, but on her sister R/V Melville it consisted of one Remington 12-guage and one .30 cal. Winchester—use mostly as shark repellant during swimming parties.

firestar12, I think the M/V knorr is a verry difficult ship to build.

Have you ever modelled something before with Blender?
Beceaus it is easyer said than done.

I would first try a more simple ship, and when you have some experience (and bleuprints), you can start modelling a bigger ship.

Thanks ;D Well, I might not use NURBS for the hull. But i think i can sneak  past it and get just permission from WHOI. But even if i had to contact pentagon it would be a cool story. And to cantact Pentagon just google "Contact the Pentagon"

I GOT AN EMAIL FROM WOODS HOLE! YES! They said i would have to contact the navy. So i asked them for an email to the Navy. Heres what they sent me:Hi,

Thanks for your email.  Regarding your request, you would need to get permission from the Navy, since they own the ship.  We only operate it for them.

Good luck!

Sounds cool.... Any idea on how to contact the Navy? Because the operators of the vessel sound perfectly fine with it!

Has rendering begun yet? Because you know, you need no one's permission to render it, you only need permission to release it (which would be giving it to Vstep).

Havent you read my other topic? I contacted the Navy and they wouldnt give me anything more. Project Knorr has been...sadly, aborted. Anyways, I probably would have created a bad model.

Oh.... I don't visit too many other topics.

I figured 1 person was a losing battle. I'm sure if Vstep aproached them, though, they would allow it.

Im not too convinced about that. Look at what they said: Fireheart42096,

Visit the Knorr Web site operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution and contact them for any further
information/permissions/etc.
http://www.whoi.edu/page.do?pid=8157

Please understand that our priority is the safety of all U.S. Navy
assets and the men and Spambot aboard. The U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office
will provide no further details about the ship's construction. Providing
such details would put the safety of our sailors at risk.

Good luck in your gaming,
U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office

Nah, they wouldn't.

The U.S. NAVY will most likely never give out any information on any of their ships to VSTEP. They might have in "the old days", but since 9/11 terrorists are everywhere, even in small software developing companies (well at least in the eyes of politicians and so on), so they keep all their toys shrouded in mystery.  ;D

Kinda like the Sr-71 Blackbird. They dont even use it anymore! And it still holds the current speed record.

... So does that mean the Keldysh is far more likely to make it in?

If so, it's worth a shot! ;D

No, I wouldnt even Bother with Keldysh. We..I know for SURE that we wouldnt get her either. But if some crazy thing-Miracle happened i suppose i could-Drag myself-To model her. But it wont happen.
