Title: Gamestop.com
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on August 26, 2008, 13:37:49
Hi everyone,

I want to buy Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm from Gamestop.com in America, but since i live in the UK, i have never made a purchase from the States. Has anybody used this site before? and if you have ordered from Gamestop.com and are living in another country, like the UK, did you have any problems with the order?

Here is what i am wanting to purchase (Its Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm on PC):

Finally, is Gamestop in America a reputable company?

Thanks in advance,
Jack ;)
p.s. i've already had a chat with Terry, but i am more so asking about Gamestop itself. As i've changed my mind a little about buying on Ebay.

I have bought almost all of my land trasportation games from either Gamestop or EB games and I would totaly stand by my statement that they are 99.98% secure and a good choice for your perchuse.  Although if you are going to have to wait for shipping in the first place I might suggest looking at Amazon, unless you think otherwise.

If you ever have any American questions, just ask, ;)

Thanks for your reply Llamalord!

I noticed that on Amazon, the front cover looked a bit different to what games here normally look like, it sort of made me think "will that play on my computer".

Usual: (http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/647352b.jpg)

Amazon: (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/516aWc2pwYL._SL500_AA280_.jpg)

Will the one from Amazon play on my computer?

Thanks,
Jack :)

I bought the game Saturday from a store here in the US called Best Buy and the cover looked like the one you labled as usual. For some reason I had a very difficult time installing it. It must not be compatible with my DVD drive. It spun forever in the drive and wouldn't auto run. I messed around for a couple of hours with the game and the computer and finally wound up leaving the disk in the drive and restarting the computer. Then from the run command I did the setup. It still took a long time to set up and the first time it still wasn't right. When the game started the Northwestern was spinning like a rotor blade on a helicopter. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again and it finally works right. I wasn't really expecting too much from the game, I mostly bought it because I'm a fan of the show. Although I've only done the first couple of missions so far it seems like it may be better than I was expecting.

PS_ I did put the disk in another computer and the autorun started just fine so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the disk.

Thanks for your reply Russ!

Do you think it would be a wise move for me to buy Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm from America then? i'm just a little confused as to whether or not i should order from Gamestop.com, or Amazon. Its just the "different" cover put me off buying from Amazon, as i thought it may not play on my computer, but i don't know much about computers, so i'm not too sure.

Thanks,
Jack.

Sorry I can't help you there Jack. I don't know if there's any difference in the American version and the European version. Hopefully someone on your side of the pond will be able to answer that.

I know there's a difference in video DVD's in their region coding cause I bought a region free DVD player to play British DVD's on. I'm a "Last of the Summer Wine" fan which is what I bought that DVD player for but since I've had it I've also bought other British DVD's including "Trawlermen". I don't know if the game DVD's are region coded or not.

Here is what I say. SS was a difrent cover than what I usually see. I was unsure at first, but then I found out the covor is diffrent because there is a USA cover and a European color. I would say to buy it from whatever your gut tells you to. You can also check with your parents as well because they might know the solution. Let me study that picture for a sec......

Ok, here are the results from the picture. Both pictures have DVD-rom on the cover. I know that it is very hard to see, but the only diffrence is that they moved the PC symbol to the top right corner instead of the bottom left corner. Trust me on what I meant when I said they both have DVD-rom in the title, I have 20/20 vision ;)
