I'm afraid thats completely false. The two men in the crow's nest were not at fault. They saw the burg, with no Bino's and on a night which had a "false horizon". When they saw the burg they reported it, as per regulation. IF anyone is to blame its the chief executive of harland and wolf, for not allowing enough lifeboats (the person origonally tasked with the ship had more than enough lifeboats added on the origonal plan). Brucy was also at fault for insisting the ship proceed at high speed through ice, and the captain is also at fault for allowing the ship to travel at speed.
I'm also not sure where you came up with the idea of the two lookouts having a bit of "fun" but I can assure you it has no ground atall. period.
