Haha OMG how did that happen?? It's not like someone knew it wasn't going to happen lol!!
It happend on the river Rhine. Every winter/spring the water level rises, and often it get's so high the river floods. They have created special designated areas along the river side, where the water can go instead of flooding the villages and city's along the river. With the high water of, i believe, 2001/2002 the Captain took a short cut but got stuck and the water level went back to it's normal level

More pic's? look here: http://www.thewebsite.de/cms/Album-schiffbruch.html

Poor Riverdance :-\ at the time I was actually living in Blackpool, so I got the opportunity to go and see her myself, I have some picture's that I took somewhere. It was all over the papers in the morning after she had beached, it brought good business to Blackpool! Should have kept her there :D
Jack.

She's been long Gone :-[ she was dismantled on the beach for scrap.

And again - a new rule for me: Never play SS after you've played some drift racing games:

No drifting a ship is silly and will end up in chaos, trust me i know! ;D

nothing like a good dry dock ::)

I've drifted a speed boat before. 40 mph then hard to starboard, skip a little, that is when those hand grabs work really well!

I tried ShipSim2006 for the first time yesterday, was finished the mission and decided to run over a sailboat....with the Titanic. Almost caught him too!! HAHAHAHAA!!

Ohhh Riverdance, long gone now, not even a scrap of metal left on the beach!
Lots of rumours circulating now as to why she wasn't sorted out earlier...She was due to go out of service not so long after the accident, so...... :-\

KNRM lost a rescue vessel. At least it ain't Are Visser. The hull is orange bottom, blue upper hull.

I suppose my picture is the definition of irony ::) :D

They capsize the vessel in a controlled situation, to test if the vessel can upright herself.

It is one of the Arie Visser class. They stopped painting the vessels to reduce the cost.

All it needs is a lick of paint. Some welding, a new stern, new bow, new hull, new superstructure, engines, electrics, deck equipment, propellors and she'd be as good as new.
Was this the one that got stranded in the Canaries?
-
Where do you think the other half is? :-\
Or did it just disintegrate ::)

That's not the SS Blue Lady. That is the SS America.
The ship was being towed to be turned into a hotel I think. The lines broke and attempts to re attach to her failed.
She washed up on the beach and she was declared a total loss. They decided to just leave her. Her stern section was almost completely detached, that's why it's not there.
That ship is also sister ship to the SS United States. Older sister of course.
-
Maybe thats not the Norway Wow they look exactly alike
(http://i45.tinypic.com/2pr92dt.jpg)

different masts ;)

Correct.
I don't know about KNRM, but over here the RNLI state that the boat must self-right in less than 14 seconds, or it's back to the drawing board. The test is done twice, once with sacks of sand in the seats, then again with the crew.
-
Maybe thats not the Norway Wow they look exactly alike
Different completely

No, I didn't mmmmm. I do appreciate you telling me. It has come as a complete shock. To think I didn't spot all that rust, the lack of deck equipment and all the hull doors missing.
Perhaps they only tied it up then to stop all the travellers knicking the scrap :-\
You do realize that he doesn't realize anything?? :P
That's a bit like Ronnie Biggs complaining about rail travel. Or Tony Blair complaining that Holidays in Afghanistan aren't what they were...

Relax, mmmmmmm. I know you were trying to be helpful. Perhaps people extracting the urine from you should really consider some of their own posts elsewhere... So don't take offence.

Yachtsicle!
-
Nice. ;D
I'm trying to figure why it hasn't sunken yet
-
Well, as long as it doesn't tip over or the water goes 'over the edges and inwards', I reckon the weight of the ice pushes the boat further down, displacing more water and more water discplacement equals more buoyancy. But I'm no expert on that Archimedes stuff. ;D
-
It looks a bit like a giant iceberg and we all know they float :D
-
It looks a bit like a giant iceberg and we all know they float :D
It does depend a little on the surface area of the hull on the water... LucAT is the person to ask for all the mathematical equations to work out maximum loading on a hull.
(I will just nod and say, "yes. I understand you".. :D)
-
I think that a large build up of ice increases the top weight of the boat/ship which raises the centre of gravity and in extreme cases the boat/ship will capsize. I am sure that is the way that many trawlers in northern waters are lost.
-
Oh yes, one only needs to look to extremes... A cargo ship can carry X000 containers- try sticking them on a rowing boat and see what happens.
I'm sure there is a mathematical formula of (mass*hulltype / waterdensity+temperature)*42 +Luc constant= maximum cargo load...
-

Icing can really be a pain in the butt! The 'Vertical Centre of Gravity' (VCG) increases due to the extra weight on top which has effect on the 'metacentric height' (GM). The vessel can roll over because of icing.
-
Is that the stuff you put on cakes???
Yummm.... cakey boat ;D
