Hi
Hearing reports that the QE2 is up for sale once more... :-\
Lets hope she has more luck with a new buyer... assuming it isn't Mr A. Lang...
-
I don't think she'll end up at Alang, there isn't really a reason to scrap her...She looks to be in a decent state, and I personally think she will end up coming back to the UK, if not here, somewhere where she'll be looked after. I think if people even thought QE2 was going to be scrapped there would be major uproar here in the UK...It's not like the France, where she wasn't well known in general society...This is a Cunarder! - and known around the world. And for that reason, and the fact that she's so well loved by the general public - I can't see her being scrapped :)
Jack.

I though the QE2 was a hotel in dubi?
-
the Dubai banks had even bigger problems
She currently just sits alongside a quay somewhere...

Money?

Money?
I don't think so. I think she's worth more in the state she's in now, than scrap metal. Not like the Norway, or the United States, that were tired, or needing a lot of work :) (that's what I think, anyway).
POD: She was supposed to be, however, no work was ever done except for a re-paint and the removal of the Cunard logo's and such. Originally, she was supposed to be chopped in half, and a new funnel was supposed to be made, etc...But that never materialised. She was also supposed to be going to Cape Town as a temporary floating hotel, however, it was announced that would not go ahead - and thus, with Dubai's debt being in the billions, they have started to sell off their assets; that includes Qe2.
Jack :)

In comparasin to a lot of ships, not a lot of times, actually

Some ships get lucky and continue to float as hotels, museums, and sail. Others might get scrapped and they end the last chapter of their life. I hope the Queen Elizabeth 2 continues to sail.

Lol WM  :P
I don't think that QE2 will go to Alang...i think many historical societies would protest...
-
They can protest all they want, but unless they have the money to keep her then she could well end up being sold for scrap.
There is only so long that steel can survive in salt water, the problems quite often start from the inside rather than the outside.
If the ship is to be used commercially in any way then she will have to be regularly surveyed, and even in water surveys cost a fortune
She is very unlikely to ever sail as a passenger ship again as she would require major structural changes to comply with new SOLAS regs.
If she is to sit alongside somewhere then someone will have to pay for the berth, and even then she will require a lot of maintenance to keep her in a safe condition.

you mean like the protest agenst dumping Brent spar 1 :P
It did not get dumped
