The #4funnel, which was a ventilation shaft for the engine room..
The last of Britannic's crew escaped at the last second through the 4th funnel to get out. So you got the right answer.

LARGE HOLE in the side- which was why it was sinking... If not, why not? Seems a good way to get out to me  ;)
The large hole as you said was on the starboard bow so incorrect
bulkheads?
The bulkheads are inside the ship and with water coming up, they had only one last way out.

What ship sank in 1945, before WWII ended? Hint, this ship was German and was a three stacker. More Hint, I will use a few letters of the ship but jumbled up:
