A number of factors really. The main one-the bulbous bows are slightly different.

Hi Captain Mike,
Your picture is of one of British India S.S. Co. Ltd. cargo vessels but which one I could not say. I think she is passing under Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Then I congratulate you. I can't tell the difference.... But lets hope the Captains can, otherwise that will lead to some very interesting crossings  ;D

Erm...are they  ???

I always identified the two by the P&O logo below the bridge on POH. If it doesn't have a P&O logo below the bridge, tis POR.

Anybody with eyes who looks close enough can tell that this is a different ship. Norland wasn't the only ship painted blue you know  ;)

Pride of Burgundy

Although with that colour scheme, it is the P&OSL Burgundy, taken between 1998-2002

Hmm, firstly, It could also have been the PO Burgundy, since when P&O brought out Stena Line in 2002, the livery was the same until the next years refit.

Okay so...

What ship is this...

Clue 1:

Clue 2: It does take cars

Hi Captain Mike,
Even I am not that old :o. Not yet anyway :-[ That steamer was built in 1860, to carry brandy from the Charente area of France to Liverpool. There are two clues in this statement, one as to her name and the other as to her owners.

Angus.

The ship was the Cognac, owned by Charente Steamship Co and Managed by Harrisons.

Go to the top of the class Mike. That is correct in every aspect. Although my father and I both sailed for that Company, even he was not around then, having joined the company in 1914.

Hi Captain Mike,
That one looks like the "Elstree Grange" of Houlder brothers. Built 1913 by Dixons of Glasgow.
