So,
Start -> Run -> Dxdiag

then you can read your computers specs where it says memory it'll tell you there.

Unfortunately not, the minimum is 5900.

Some cards may indeed work, but most software companies do not offer support if your PC is below the minimum.  This is one of the reasons that the minimum is stated.

My Geforce 6600 512mb isn't listed in the supported cards for Battlefield 2142, so if I ever have an issue, I will have to deal with it myself, even though the minimum spec for graphics is 128mb lol

Hope this explains the situation a little better ;)

Unfortunately, I don't have a great deal of experience with ATI cards, I use nVidia, always have ;)

Looking at it though, it seems like it may be just over the minimum, so the game should run....maybe on 'low' for graphics quality though.

Maybe some other members have the information you need :)

That will also depend on other hardware, specifically your graphics card.

If possible, post your card details too ;)

Of course, laptops aren't really designed for games, so it isn't always a certainty that a game will run.

A little tip for those who don't know ;)

The 2 major factors in game performance are:

1.  RAM (Memory) - 1gb is the minimum for most games now, but I would recommend at least 2gb....more if possible ;)
2.  Graphics - At least 256mb of graphics RAM for a performance boost - 512mb or higher would also be better, but then the price can increase substantailly.

When upgrading, look at these 2 items first, then CPU ;)

Of course, there are other factors to bear in mind when upgrading:

Hard Drive performance - Look for at least a 133 IDE drive running at 7200rpm.  Even better would be a SATA-II drive (faster than IDE by a long way) :D

CPU is very important, yes :)

I was merely pointing out the first considerations for upgrading ;)

As far as price for memory, it depends where you shop, some RAM is cheaper than others, but be careful of really cheap RAM ;)

I prefer Kingston RAM myself :D

Jeezes. Why is it 2gig vista? I mean, i know Xp eats 200 minimum up and so 768meg on xp is understandable, but surely vista doesnt eat up twice that just running normally?  ???

How much of a graphics boost does one get from using a (relativly) high ram video card? I have the 6100 with 256meg, whereas ss wants 128. Would this 'enhance' my frame rate at all?

I'll stick with my PC thanks. It's compatibility makes it far superior to a MAC.

Yeah- Ive' gotta use Imacs at college (Media Diploma) but as Orinoco says, its the compatibility which wins Microslush the cup at operating Plats'.
I am still using windows 3.1 on my laptop, yet I swear its still more compatible than a Mac OSX!  ;D However, I have to hand it to apple, macs do run incredibly economically, especially when it comes to ram, cpu power etc.
