Nice idea :)

Press add new poll (This is in any board) ;)

Nice idea indeed, but a poll would only work if ALL models have been placed in the topic before the voting. Or else you could vote only once and if there's a better one added later, you cannot change your vote.

What you could do is, aks modelers to showcase their work here for the contest. And set a closing date. Say, entries can be put here for one week and no longer after that week has past. (or however long you want.)

After that period is over, you could add the poll to it and include all the modelers/models in it. Then people could vote for their favorite. Something like that.

By the way, that kind of prices are you gonna give the winner(s)??  ;D ;D

Regards,
Fred

WHAT!? that's one hell of a masterpiece!

Perhaps he used Delftship (http://www.delftship.net/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1).

But even then, it's really good! And if it's done in Sketchup from scratch, it's really really really good.  ;D

Post by: Mad_Fred on January 20, 2008, 22:01:28
FYI

Programme is the same as Program. It's just different variants. Programme though, is especially British.
It's not used that often compared to it's shorter relative nowadays, but has the same meaning nonetheless.  :)

Title: Re: Ship modelling contest
Post by: [RWP]DJM on January 20, 2008, 22:05:04
Excuse me for interrupting here, but being British I have to say something ;D

Programme is usually associated with a number of things, like TV programmes, football programmes (as in booklets) etc.

Program was adopted over here from America to mean software, the only time you will see programme used to relate to software now, is when someone gets these two words mixed-up ;)

Thanks for the clarification!

The dictionary said is was OK, but I guess in commonly spoken/written language this doesn't always work that way.  ;D

If i can help,
Programme,is a shedual of things,like Tv-programs
A program, can be something to run on your pc.I think you can compair this as "programma" in dutch, which can be programme in english.
I hope this has been helpfull,or maybe someone has a different oppinion.

Fred

Something to really bear in mind too Fred......local dialect, this can dramatically alter the way words are used in many Countries.  The Dictionary is probably right, we all have different ways of speaking I guess, even when we live in the same Country ;)

That's why these online translators rarely work, they don't take local dialect into account ;)
Title: Re: Ship modelling contest
Post by: Mad_Fred on January 20, 2008, 22:29:16
Yup indeed, the online translators make for poor results. I avoid using them to be honest. If I need to look at a word I just grab the old fashioned big papery thing with a hard cover around it. Oxford edition.. hehe.. Works a bit slower but the nostalgic smell is much nicer.  ;D

Like DJM said,
This can be a very nice contest, however saying that the best model with come in the game is a bit over the line(accept that Vstep is announce this itself).
The problem is that some members might remind you later of what you have promest.
About the contest, well it's a nice idea itself. This way you can make members very interested in 3-D modelling.

Hi guys,

The best thing to do for a reliable result is just to set a date for the voting. So that would mean having a new poll when that date is reached.

You could work a bit more on the models, other people could still enter their ships. And the poll you have going now is just a temporary picture of things.

Once all entries are in and the date is reached, you let the people vote again, and do not put up any more edits or new ships in, and then you'd know for sure which is the most liked at THAT particular moment.

Just how I see it.

Regards,
Fred
