Hey all,
I was looking around in Google Earth at some of the game environments and located a few of our beloved vessels, so I thought I'd share the pictures with you. Just for a laugh.
some might not be spot on because obviously not all vessels from the game are real vessels and in case of the Red Jet 4 and Red Eagle there's quite a few similar vessels going about their business there. ;D
So far I have located:
* Arie visser (A sistership, because Terschelling harbor was not clear enough)
* Harbour tug (close enough) :D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/DFS_MadFred/HarbourTug.jpg)
* Pride of Rotterdam
* Red Eagle (or a sister, but it's close enough) :)
* Red Jet (again, may be a sister, but it's close)
* RPA # ? (Incident response vessel, not sure which of them)
* Water Taxi
* Vermaas (Well it's pretty close, indeed)
* Furie
* Elbe
* Pilot Vessel (Used in Rotterdam. Not exactly the same as in the game, but close enough.)
If you have found more, or wanna point out that I am mistaken with some of them, feel free to post it! ;D
Regards,
Fred
-
very nice ;D how did you found them?
-
I think the one with redjet in is redjet 3 :)
-
very nice ;D how did you found them?
Well, I looked at the screen whilst I was going through the harbours. This made me spot them. ;D
Only joking... I just looked around the Port of Rotterdam and the Solent to see if any of them were out there.
(And with ships like the Elbe and Furie it wasn't really hard as Maassluis hasn't got a huge big harbour anyway)
I think the one with redjet in is redjet 3 :)
I have no idea, I'll take your word for it! ;)
Fred
-
I think it's RJ2 actually on second thoughts. :D Don't take my word for it! :P ;D
-
I think it's RJ2 actually on second thoughts. :D Don't take my word for it! :P ;D
It is either Red Jet 1 or Red Jet 2 in the first picture and Red Jet 3 in the second.

Very nice shots there Fred, impressive ;D
Regards.
DJM.

Thanks very much, mate! ;D

Hmm, I have searched the port of Rotterdamn but can't find a police boat anywhere.
But I have found this one and it looks a bit like that P6 was when it was the port authority vessel in SS2006.
It has the same "hole" in the SB side where those steps are on the P6. Although that does not really look like a zodiac on the back.
What do you guys think? Similar vessel?
Regards,
Fred
-
Very similar indeed :) I remember that in the other colours.
-
You did a great job, Fred! Very good!
-
Thanks, much appreciated!
Fred

new picture added, pilot vessel, see first post.
Fred
-
I think the one with redjet in is redjet 3 :)
Yeap the one docked is RedJet 2 and the one sailing is RedJet 3 :P
-
Thanks adamo!
There's two more to be found on google Earth. The first one is at Cowes and looks like the docked on on the picture with the Red Eagle. So I reckon that's #1 then?
And then there's another one heading towards Southampton. That must be #4 then, if what you say is correct. (I take your word for it) Unless they operate more than 4 of them. I don't know and couldn't find anything about their vessels when I glanced at the Red Funnel website. But I cannot find any others on G.E. so I assumed they have 4 of them. If I'm wrong someone will correct me, no doubt.
Here they are:

Not quite the Latitude..but i couldnt find a VLCC on Google! Any way this looks like an Aframax Tanker, loading aprox 85000mt of cargo at Fawley Marine Terminal on the Solent. :D

OK one better then before....A VLCC berthing at Richmond Long Wharf (Top of San Fransisco bay). Looks slightly different to the Latitude, but she is a mythical ship not based on a VLCC or an ULCC.... Unfortantly i cant seem to cut and paste from google earth...perhaps someone could let me know the secret?
-
Hello dharl,
There are programs to take these pictures? SnagIt, MWSnap or other ones.
I found a VLCC in the Tokyo bay with Google Earth, and some other with Google Maps.
This one has a beam 60m and a length of 335m.
Regards, ;)

Hello,
I forgot to tell that I use Irfanview, as well to capture screenshots as for reducing color depths and saving in png format. And it's freeware, of course.
Luc

Thanks Luc,
unfortantly mainly use a work pc for using the forum, and that dosnt allow me to dowload freeweb from the web....company security policy etc! ;)

Actually, I think none of the ones I posted actually is RedJet4.
Look at the differences on these pages:
http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/RedJet2.html
http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/RedJet3.html
http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/RedJet4.html
The ones that are saling on the photo's, have a smaller cockpit with the three windows. Like the RJ3 has. Thus it IS the RJ3, The ones that are docked, are the older type, thus the RJ2.
Even though they are in Google Earth at the same time does not mean they are different ships. Those sattelite photo's are not all from one date. so infact the Cowes photo could contain the same vessels than the Southampthon one.
In fact, there are four raptor class ferries to be found on GE, but they only operate three, the Red Eagle, Red Falcon and Red Osprey.
So I think that both sailing ones are in fact RedJet 3 and the docked ones are both RedJet 2 and that #4 is not amongst them. (AFAIK they operate these three and that there is no #1?!)
Again, compare the front windows of the cockpit of the RJ's in my posts with those on the pictures on the pages I linked here. You'll see, they're not the RJ4. Guess I'll have to look harder. IF it is somewhere in there, I will find it! ::)

You are correct, none of the Jets found on GE are Red Jet 4. Dont forget Red Jet 1 & 2 are virtually identical - I cant tell them apart. As far as I know, Red Jet 1 is still used, though not that often.
In the first picture it is Red Eagle & Red Jet 1 or 2.
The second is Red Jet 3.
The third picture (Cowes harbour) its again Red Jet 1 or 2 and Red Eagle before she was lengthened and had the upper car deck added.
Red Jet 3 in in the next picture.
The others on GE:
Just north of the Fawley marine terminal, I believe its Red Osprey before she was modified in late 2003.
Continuing towards Southampton, next is Red Jet 3.
Just off Southampton's Dock Head is another image of the Red Eagle before being modified.

Thanks muns, much appreciated!

Hi Fred,
This looks like the RPA 1 or RPA 2
-
Thanks, Donny
It's not quite similar to the P6 then, but close.. :)
Fred

Just to let you guys know, you can tell the Pride Of Rotterdam and Pride Of Hull apart because the Pride of Hull has a blue roof, where the Pride Of Rotterdam has a Green roof.
Also, the pride of rotterdam has moved on in Google Earth since Fred took those images, it can now be seen docked in Hull. Unfortunately the port of rotterdam is too big to find the Pride Of Hull.
-
more of that Fred wherry impressing and lot of work i can think
nice shots
TJK
-
Thanks..
not a lot of work really.. I was just looking around the game environments and spotted some of them. The rest were easy, just scrolled along the port to find some more. Not all are 100% spot on, but some just cant be found anyway. ;)
I'll try to find some more, but I guess I'll have to update GE as my PoR is still in Rotterdam and not in Hull, as nbc said. I usually get a notice from GE when there's a new version, but maybe they changed this feature, I don't know.

I found this one, not sure which of the Red Funnel ferries it is, maybe a sister ship to the Red Eagle
(http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3407/redfv7.png) (http://imageshack.us)
Just up the river, at the entrance to Southampton you can spot another Red Eagle sister, maybe even the Red Eagle itself:
(http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2599/red2mn9.png) (http://imageshack.us)
Then, even further up the river to Southampton, you can see a third Red Funnel ferry.
(http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8797/red3gx0.png) (http://imageshack.us)
Then, strangely there is a fourth one. The only possible explanation is that the images were taken at different times then joined together.
(http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8595/red4fk5.png) (http://imageshack.us)
However, i can't find the Red Jet 4 on Google Earth. Maybe these images were taken before the Red Jets launch in 2002/3?
-

I think you are right, because there is variation of the quality of the pictures.
-
Yes the images were indeed taken at different times.
The one docked in Southampton is the Red Eagle, the others are Red Osprey and Red Falcon (of which one is on the picture twice.)
Fred
-
How can you tell?

Go on Fred, please tell.....
I know the Names on the hull and superstructure are a giveaway but what else?
-
Well I think the Red Eagle was the first to get a double deck layout. And you can see that the upper deck has the exit ramp on one side.
The others clearly have only the lower deck with the entry/exit in the middle..So they must not have been converted yet when those pictures were taken. Well that's what I think but someone will surely correct me if I am wrong. It might aswell be the other way around too and that one of the sailing ones is the Red Eagle.
Fred

Fred
Sorry Fred but you are wrong.
Red Osprey was the first to be modified to have the upper car deck, then it was Red Falcon and lastly Red Eagle.
Red Falcon and Red Osprey are almost identical but Red Falcon has additional radar emitters at the base of the masts. As Red Falcon was the first of them, they were thought to be necessary and it was found that they were not required so Red Osprey and Red Eagle did not have them. I have never seen them in operation.
You can tell Red Eagle apart from the other two as the Bridge superstructure is higher off of the deck, which in my opinion makes her look the best of the three, the others look like someone has pressed down and squashed the bridge towards the main superstructure.
-
;D
Well If you knew, why'd you go and ask me? heh heh... :P
I looked it up here (http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/RedFunnel-Raptors.html) after I wrote that but didnt get round to correct myself yet. :)
Thanks for sharing that with us.

A while ago on my old PC I had Google Earth also, with alot cruise ships and more on it in my favorites.
Nearly all Royal Caribbean ships, location of Titanic's wreck, SS America wreck (anyone knows this? It's pretty special in my opinion), Queen Mary 2, and lots more :D. But I said old PC, so it's still on it's harddisk, not on this one!
Chantal

Yes, unfortunately the SS America broke up and drifted off, then it actually sunk. Shame, looked like a nice ship

Did it totally sink by now? Aww, that sucks. As far as I knew only 2 small parts of the hull were still above the surface.
Edit: Found a picture on Google Earth which is taken in November, 2007.
-
I thought it had sunk, but it appears i'm wrong. I heard of the SS America in my google earth book "Not in the guide book" which shows mazing sights in Google earth, including SS America. I'm suprised someone hasn't tried to rescue her, but i do know a lot of her interior fittings have been taken and have been used in hotels, bars etc. on the island next to where she is.

I actually would have liked to come and see it, but I knew about her since mid 2007. Almost nothing was left :P. I been to Gran Canaria anyway, another Canary Island :). I have read a website of someone who went to the wreck like every half year, and told what changed etc. Was really interesting to read, although reading it took very long :P. I even saw some photos, where the sea was so bright, that you could see the stern under water. Did you know a few people died trying to get onto the SS America?
-
That doesn't suprise me,trying to get interior fittings from the part of the ship which is underwater,it isn't easy ;D ::)

Hey, it's there since 1994, and never been underwater since mid 2007.
Just look at this photo...
Oh, and they didn't try to save her because she broke in two shortly after she ran on the sand.
Edit: check out this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLDuMCBC3lQ
Photos of the stern included.

The picture of a sistership of the Arie Visser isn't an Arie Visser class, it's a Johannes Frederik class ship (www.knrm.nl) This is a picture of the Koopmansdank ("Thanks of a Merchant" in English) from station Noordland.

The real Arie Visser!

Greets from a dutch lifeboat crewmember!
-
I thought the one I posted was the Arie Visser class lifeboat 'Jeanine Parqui' from Hoek van Holland. (that shot is near there, but it could be that you are right and that's not an Arie Visser sister)
Cheers!
Fred
-
haha! I have found the Pride of Hull! It turns out that only a small section of the roof is in blue (The roof is made of a some kind of astroturf like material), as seen in the picture. You can find it docked in the Port of Hull.

I'm pretty sure this is the Prinses Margriet (Stellendam) http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/996/dscn4204kopiehy4.jpg (http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/996/dscn4204kopiehy4.jpg) She doesnt have a tube on het "backside". The Jeanine Parqui is docked in the Berghaven.
*edit, I've had a look at your coordinates and thats the shipyard where some of the KNRM ships get maintained. (Maasluis)
-
Cheers Jappuh, I guess you're right then!!
@NathanC Good find.. I guess no one ever thought to look in Hull... ::)
;D
Fred

I don't know about player ships but this ship looks kind of familiar...
-
Hmm, yes of course.. there's AI ships too! hehe.. nice one! ;D
Fred
-
Yet more AI ships in Rotterdam :)
-
Am I the only one that even looks anymore? :P
Here is a Rotterdam Port Authority P6.
-
;D
I forgot about this one..
I posted that vessel too, on page one. It's not exactly like the P6, but it's very close indeed. :)

No problem, good find! :)
But err.. I did include them in post #1, both of them. ;D

Oh for th.......i should really check previous posts before awaking topics...sorry ;D

Well because they are all here in the topic. This topic serves that purpose. ;D
I can put all of them in the #1 post some time, but it's not that important anyway... :)

Coolio Fred. ;D
I's that where it's parked in it's mission? ???
-
You mean in real life?
That indeed seems to be the 'parking lot' for the Bugsier tugs, aswell as others, if I am not mistaken this is a tug base. You can see lots of her colleagues moored along with her there;

Ahoy dharl,
No secret at all. When You see the right picture on Your screen press the Print Screen key just once (on most keyboards top row, therd key from the right). Then open any photo-editing program You have. If You have none, open Paint. Choose for new (object, screen, project) or what else is onder the New-Option. Then press Ctrl + V to paste the screendump and save it as picture.jpg or any other name.jpg
Thats all.
