* Restarts ECDIS again...

Hang on  ;D

Make it 119 degrees then via the northern entrance  ;D

Northern Entrance...

there is no Northern Entrance...  ::)

You have the Eastern, by the Car Ferry terminal, and the Western, by the Cruise Terminal

You have the Eastern, by the Car Ferry terminal, and the Western, by the Cruise Terminal

The one on your left hand if you are standing with your back to Dover

That is the Eastern Entrance

So Eastern Entrance: Use Heading 119'

What about the Western Entrance?

*The one on the right  ::)

Hehe, follow a course of 116 degrees  It should lead you nicely to the channel to Calais  :)

Hello,
It is just an idea, that if you don't have a demo navigation program or anything like that, you can prepare cruises or crossings with GoogleEarth Tools distance tool, it will return easily distances and true headings, disregarding tidal streams, so it shouldn't be a problem. I can guess some people already do it ....

It was close enough, I sat between 110 and 120 and it guided me right into the Sangette channel.

That's good to hear  not the only one with rubbish FPS. just upped the anti on the sea and wake settings so this will be interesting...can you get minus figures for FPS, or does it become FPM (frames per minute)

This sounds intriguing... :)

So I can plan a trip using Google Earth? I also have a Admiralty Chart of Dover-Calais - is that useful ()

Zooming in around Calais, for instance, you can see ferries making way and their wake, bearing in Google Earth are correct, and the coordinates are very correct, in fact better than some Admiralty printed charts that I have. I wanted one day to check the alignment of Dover and Calais together, and was surprised of the quality of Google Earth's references. There are no soundings of course, no tidal data, identifying buoys is impossible unless there are pictures, etc, but details and mapping are quite good.
To find channels, have a look at AIS data .... why not? Map details can sometimes seem strange in SSEx, but the topographic data are excellent.

Luc

Thanks, can't say I'm looking forward to the journey much.

From leaving home until I get to my apartment / hotel in Busan will be around 24 hours.

I am quite excited about the new ship though, should be fun.

Just been putting SS08 onto my laptop this morning.

Hopefully should have some pics as well. Even though the ship is already in the water I am hoping that I will be able to get hold of some of the building doc photos when I get out there.
