There, there.. it's only a sketchup model..  It's not like I built the real thing all by myself, blindfolded...

But thank you very much for the kind words nonetheless, Shane!!!

Nothing new to report..

Although I did go and visit Hoek van Holland yesterday, and got a close look at the Cetus, one of the real ones.  ;D

Also went to Maassluis to see Furie, and saw some interesting things in the area, many ships going in and out, nice Ferries at the Stena Line terminal, the other pilot boats.. etc..

A very windy, very nice day, all in all.  ;D

Wow, some of those light renders are amasing realisticly!

I only spotted one mistake.
On the anchor winch you used a chain while it is a steel cable on the real ship.
On the real ship there is a short peice of chain at the anchor, but the rest is steel cable.

You can clearly see that on one of the pictures that I made. ;)

Thanks Ballast, nice photo!

At first I wanted to make a second one in these colors too, but haven't got round to that and don't know that I will..

Thanks TFM and Sam!!

and yep I know, Sam.. And the anchor is the wrong kind too. I might change it. I actually made that chain for another vessel and just used it here too. lazyman's solution.  ;D

:2thumbs: That is really an impressive design. I do not recall seeing one of those before. I would imagine, though, turning and sideways maneuvering to be quite difficult. Forgive me if I am wrong.

actually those vessels have very good handling skills. I think she can go around herself with out any bow thrusters or anything.

The SWATH vessels have indeed great maneuvering characteristics. They also can sail in rougher weather than the regular jet propulsion tenders and continue pilot services.

Even though, the Dutch pilot society invested again in jet prop tenders instead of SWATH vessels. The jet propulsion vessels are easier and safer to get alongside with. With SWATH you basicly get one shot to get alongside in the proper position. With jet propulsion vessel you can still control the tender to get it right.

Hey everyone,

I was asked a few times about the attempt to make the Perseus, that I took a while ago. And asked if I was going to continue. Unfortunatly that first attempt was not very good. So I started it again, from scratch. It's not a 100% accurate copy since I only found photo's and no plans (yet), but generally realistic enough to bare the same name allready, I reckon... Lotsa work still to be done, but it's a start.  ;D

More to follow soon, I hope.

Fred.

what is the program you use to design these boats in 3d?
