French car or not, Jeremy Clarkson is an idiot for destroying a brand new car. Was it really necessary? I wonder if the BBC licence payer's money was used to purchase the car? And who footed the bill to salvage the car from the sea? I certainly hope it's not us mugs (the public)  >:(

If the Fifth Gear on Channel 5 (i.e. it's not funded by the public) had tried to do the same thing, I very doubt they would have been allowed to destory a new car in this manner, not because it's pointless but they probably can't afford it. The BBC can.

Apparently the Twingo that went in the water was a body shell

But the bit where he smashes into stuff in the ShipYard isn't really neccassary..that is a waste of money  :-\

I reckon Renault gave them the car as a publicity stunt, like they did with Suzuki (Car Ice Hockey) and Toyota (Car Football) where all the cars were pretty smashed..

I'm sure Renault will be paying enough to Top Gear to say "Whatever" about their car...Look at that Mini Fiat, How well it has taken off now...I'd say as a result of the Top Gear show a while ago, which said it was excellent.

Seriously, Top Gear is not about wasting money. If you didn't laugh when the twingo went into the water, you probably don't get the point of top gear and that's fine. but most people think it's mainly a car show, but in actual fact it's a comedy show with a car theme.

Comedy?

Oh how riveting. I can't understand why some people are getting upset (here and on youtube) over a car they don't own. But that said, it wasn't riveting. I am not riveted. I am not remotely riveted to the screen.

Belfast - Stranraer  ;)

Have to say it was good to see them in Belfast (my port of registry ) Think there might have been a bit of CGI or what ever it is called....going on in that film such as the tunnel scenes and the "in a rush to catch the ferry" scenes  :P

I think some people are upset because it was THEIR money which was being used to destroy a perfectly good car, as the BBC is funded by the public.

If the car was provided free of charge by Renault and was allowed to be trashed with their blessing, then I have no problem with this. But Mr Clarkson or the BBC did not point out this fact during the Top Gear programme, so some viewers were left wondering if their money was wasted in this manner.

People were really angry when MPs* claimed millions of pounds on dodgy expenses, the bankers are getting bumper bonuses despite being bailed out by the taxpayers etc, so I see no reason why the way BBC spend their money shouldn't be scruntised in the same way as the others.

I know TG are mad, but they aren't THAT mad as to dump a perfectly good, brand new Twingo into the Lagan!

You can look at it whatever way you want...I'd rather my taxpayer money went towards TG  rather than say, Songs of Praise or Cash in the Attic, or those other drewy Beeb programmes.

Its the nature of the programme, hence its millions of worldwide viewers. If you object as much, do as Mr Needham did and address a letter about it...you can imagine the reply.

Ooh yeah, I heard about that too. As if the BBC already is not in enough trouble about misleading their viewers....... ::)

Oh hell, do you feel that? It's the whole world stopping turning without WM.

He'll be back. Probably under a new name, but he'll be back.
