Hope you like what you see.

Looking good
"* More realistic buoy positioning"
Excellent - this should mean Calais has buoyed channel
"* Visual Improvements: Lightened up the night,"
Lightened the night? the night is dark though...?
"* New Feature: Added bollards to freeroaming in all environments"
Woo Excellent
"* New Feature: Option to switch a Ferry's general direction"
^Not sure what this is? is this to do with Red Eagle?
no mention of Freedom 90 though... has her hovering ability been fixed yet? Also have you moved the exhaust from the thruster jets to her real exhausts?
Looking very good though
Thanks
-
Hoy Frank,
Yes, it looks great!!
Hope to have it soon in the game to test it all out.

Like they say .......
"It pays to be FRANK" !!!!!! :D :D :D
This is great news. So maybe it's a gift for Xmas or ..... New Year ?????

"* Visual Improvements: Lightened up the night,"

Alot of people complained that the night was too dark and that they couldn't see much. That's why it's brightend up a bit :)
"* New Feature: Option to switch a Ferry's general direction"
^Not sure what this is? is this to do with Red Eagle?
Yep, you can now specify to which direction you are sailing. The navlights will change then, to show the new sailing direction.
-

You're joking right? they were complaining the night was too Dark? To me it wasn't dark enough once it gets dark you shouldn't be able to see anything but lights... especially once outside the confines of a harbour...

Excellent :)

Really nice!
BTW. this picture: http://shipsim.com/shipsim_com/public/files/homepage_banners/10days_50percOFF.png
the ship which the two tugs, are towing.
Is this a new ship which will be released with the new update?

Thats SS Rotterdam, which is in the Dutch special edition of SS2008
Which is a shame cause she would be nice to sail - a real classic liner
-
Will the 1.3-patch improve the FPS'es in SSE2010 very much?
-
Well, it's ofcourse not JUST the game that is responsible for that.
But if everything else is in order, then it can/might indeed do that. It does for me, personally.
But that's no guarantee cause it depends on the person's pc setup and use as well.
-
Very nice Vstep!! :2thumbs:
-
lighten up the night ???
uhm i would say that i dont need the light improvement for the night, i love sailing in the dark dark night

me too
I say we find out who complained, and put them on a ship to show them what its like...

the seas turn pitch black at night
and the first darkness in SSE was perfect :-\
anyway

This a strong comeback here Frank ;D Just what the doctor ordered
-
Hi,
if there would be realistic navigation lights and seacharts than the night cannot be dark enough. That´s where the fun is in sailing at night. It´s dark and you have to follow the navigation lights. So if SSE would use realistic sea charts with detailed navigation lights there would be no need to lighten up the night....except we sail in arctic regions during summer times...then a lightend sky at night would be ok...

Two questions:
1. Will we have the patch before xmas?
2. When using the mission editor, will we be able to lets see decide a certain course for an ai boat to drive. For instance, makin a whaler do 15 kn 180 degreas or something? So that you can ram into it instead of her just laying still?
Hope I did myself understood :P
-
The Mission Editor Notes explain how AI works in SSE:

-
Really looking forward to it. Especialy the Editor and the Proper chains and anchors. The ropes we have now just look so wrong it will be nice to have it fixed.
Looking good.
-
Love seeing the new game improvements. Let's see how performance will improve, and if it will take some advantage of multi core CPUs, more than now.
-
One question:
1. Will we have the patch before xmas?
cheers
Thomas
-
I think its coming out before X-Mas night
-
Looking good, we shall see.. I'm curious about Red Eagle and Freedom 90..
-
Yes,.. me too,.. especially about Freedom 90.. Dover-Calais Runs will be fun!! ;D
-
Something makes me doubt that this patch will be downloadable before x-mas, maye vstep has taken holyday or something because we haven't heard anything from fred or Frank about the release date, sorry to say it, but we might have to waut until 2011 ::)
As long as the patch is good I really don't care whether it comes tomorrow or february 2011, but I would wish they had released the mission editor a bit sooner though.
-
that is some fantastic news!
still for a new patch i would love to read.
.ingame options menu (not having to go to the main menu first to change settings)
.fixed sinking speed
.updated rotterdam scenery (maastoren and new orleans toren, nationale nederlanden, manhattan hotel & WTC added.
.engine room added on pushboat
.light effects added on ships (for example portholes and cabins that light up, or exterior lightning)
.fixed AI (this might be the fixed traffic pathfinding though already listed)
.buttons for ship's horn, anchor controll ect. added
just wanted to to show some idea's/surgestions ;)
not that im not satisfied with this news, because i think this update will be awsome.
maybe there can be made an option in the graphics setting to change the brightness of the sky.
it wouldn't surprise me if vstep doesn't want to tell the releasing date, last time they did that on the SS08 patch, complete madness occured when the patch was delayed for a few times.
-
I'm also really looking forward to this new patch, the release notes look great!
Glad VSTEP are taking their time and making sure we get a top notch patch at the end of it. :2thumbs:

Yeah, let's not rush this patch. Let's make a big dent into the upgrades and fixes, by the sound of things there's quite a fair amount to tidy up.I would understand if it's not quite ready :captain:

Oh yes, please do, please do. Go nuts on those things yes, we need such things indeed.

Sorry for the newbie question... I've just bought SSE so I haven't applied the 1.2 updates yet. Do I have to apply the earlier updates first or will 1.3 have all the existing updates/hotfixes on board?
-

Whatever you prefer.
When the 1.3 becomes available we will host both a 1.2 ----> 1.3 incremental patch and a 1.0 ------> 1.3 patch. And even if you already have the 1.2 installed, you can still install the 1.0 ---> 1.3 patch. The only difference is filesize and a bigger download.
Kind regards,
Frank

And when will it become availabl?

Yeah, many people want to know it.

Well done Vstep saying to us coming soon and then going into vacation leaving us costumers behind! :sleepy:
-
Guess there is something more important the next two or three days for most of us...
Merry X-mas everyone!
-
Something tells me that the patch will come out in the next few days.
-
Hopefully, it will come out today, or tomorrow!
Cause I seriously can't wait any longer!!! :o
-
When will the 1.3-patch be expected to be released? Are there any clues about that?
-
Still no idea yet...
It is a case of it will be out when its out
-
I think there might be some clues about when the patch will be released.

Very well put. A little patience would go a long way in here ;)

I thought it would be out already, before Christmas!
And now it still isn't out yet!
I'm getting crazy!
Come on guys! :captain:

Maybe in a future patch they can modify the autopilot so insted for waypoints you can set a a compass course (heading) :2thumbs:
-
I don't think the update will come in 2010 anymore :'( :'( :'(
-
The update will be released somewhere in 2011! I think that the employees of Vstep are on holiday now between Christmas and Newyear's Day!

yeah, but then they didn't had to gave us the feeling it would we out before Christmas! or a few days later!!

where did they mention the release in 2010?

where did they mention the release in 2010?
well someone said that, but maybe it wasn't a moderator, but I thought that! xD

I say it again!
-
I don't know what month you think it is, but 2011 seems pretty soon to me.
Ever heard the saying patience is a virtue? :)
-
where did they mention the release in 2010?
Well when Vstep posted these release notes two weeks ago they said the release of the update was imminent ;D
Either they don't know what that word means, or they ran into another problem..
-
:sleepy: :sleepy:
-
Calm down and let them work in peace ;)
Like Tomaten said: just have patience. Not everything in the world will come in just one week. Just let the guys of Vstep do their job and wait 'till it's ready. Being hasty won't fix the bugs in SSE. ::)
-
I never knew that "imminent" could be 3-weeks plus!
What a tease!
-
Well sure it can.
Just look at how environmental 'scientists' say that there is a new ice age imminent from the global warming.
That's not gonna be next week.
Imminent's duration depends of the scale of the thing it refers too, as well. A game takes years to develop. So imminent can be a month or two even, easily.
But.. just as a little indication.. it's not Vstep's decision alone at this moment.

Fred

Steam is really annoying!
-
Steam is really annoying!
Now now let us not jump to conclusions there Bob :)
There are many parties involved with the publishing and distribution of the game ;)
-
Vstep has to be given enough time for developing a good patch which will fix the annoying bugs. Otherwise new bugs will arise and existing ones won't be fixed! It is better to wait some time for a good patch than releasing a patch which will introduce new bugs!
-
It is clear that many people are upset with the results of SS thus far. Still not there is a complete satisfaction of users about the game and all its features.
A strong advertising and almost convincing were massively released by VSTEP announcing a new context, a new game and would be providing a fun, fun and action within a reality which has not yet lived within the SS08 or SS06.
People (I mean users and customers VSTEP) waited for a very positive result as announced during the advertisements. Honestly I'm sure the commercial position of VSTEP should be reviewed point by point, because if not I think VSTEP may fall within a strong commercial disbelief and have your picture scratched.
I mention this opnion considering a simple fact that it occurred to me, I bought a shirt via internet UFC of a site in the USA and got another shirt that I had not chosen the worst shirt and had nothing to do with what I wanted.
Imagine you choose a product online and when it arrives at your home does not give you the results or do you expect .... yes it is boring.
I hope that everything here is seen as constructive criticism, I'm not looking for outstanding results as this may mean waiting for a new ice age for some.
But what I want is to make clear that once again it is important that results are achieved with quality and respect that users expect and want.
Enjoy and wish everyone a happy new year with peace and respect for each other.
Brgds,
JJ

This patch will fix the game crashes?
Because my game is always crashing!!!!
it crashes every 40 minutes or less, an I need to restart the game.
-
Hi Nathan,
That depends on why the game is crashing. It may be hardware related, such as a underpowered computer.
The patch does fix a lot of issues with the game as mentioned in the patch notes.
-
My Video Card is a ATI Radeon HD5770 1GB, very better than the recomended requiriments, and my computer is at 750 watts of power, my RAM is 4GB and my processor is a Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz, I think it isn't the hardware or the power

Nathan The SSE is not running into your PC?
Curious I have a lap top with the 1gb geforce video and RAM 4gb and processor of 3.0GHz I 7 so the SSE is really running normal into this machine.
I just get alot of crash during multplayer.

* New Feature: Rowboat deployables on Red Eagle
Would love to see what this looks like... !:)
-
The rowboat? There is a deployable rowboat on Agile Solution
-
There is...? The same maybe? I haven't seen that one, I think...
-
wouldn't be the same or else it wouldn't be in the patch. :)
-

Hmm...
Good point...
I want to see it soon though... :-\
preferable before the 10th...
-
Imagine you choose a product online and when it arrives at your home does not give you the results or do you expect .... yes it is boring.
I totally disagree, except for the bugs, it's exactly the type of game I expected and wanted. It's a simulation and if you're wanting a lot of action then maybe it's not the right type of game for you.
-
I have an ATI 5870, 6GB ram, i7-930, game should run smoother but due to physix, and my PC being an ATI run video card, I run this thing at lousy performance.
-
Hi itgl72,
You have quite a powerful machine there ! The ATI card - HD 5780 - is certainly suitable for SSE !!! What is the clock speed of the Core i7? I hope it as close as possible to 3.0 Ghz
Could you please elaborate on "lousy performance".
I have an AMD Phenom II @ 3.1 Ghz, 4 GB RAM and an ATI HD 5670 IGB RAM and I get the game at 21 FPS.
Regards
vin_sun
-
Hi itgl72,
you CPU are more an enough to run SSEX
i7-930 Processor 8M Cache, 2.80 GHz
so you have no problem their but if i was you
i will go for a Gforse card, but that's me :)
my self run SSE with geforse 9800GT 1 GB mem and no problem
and that card are nearly antic now :D

It is ridiculous to recommend I drop this ATI card for a GeForce card, or any other card. Months ago when the machine was built, I spent several hundred dollars on a good card at the time of purchase. Its still a good card. You dont throw around money like that in my house.
As for performance, its just not smooth as should be, and in heavy sea around iceberg, its not enjoyable to have it studder in frames per second.
Lets see what this patch does for us.
-

I have almost the same setup as you, ATI HD5870, 6GB ram and i7-920 2,8 GHz and I have no problems running the game.Just tested with Cutter in Antartic in heavy snow storm and it runs smooth at about 25 FPS.

Welp, go figure LMAO :-)
-
Has anyone checked to see if their PhysX is causing the slowdown? I don't know how it would slow it down but my game ran flawless on my Core i7 920 ~ 4X2.6ghz with 9Gb Pc8500 and a GeForce 260 216core with 896Mb, Up until I was sinking a coastguard cutter in the Atlantic and had to step away from the game for a bit. when i came back the game had fritzed out and now all the ships start with the control room view upside down for a bit and it runs really choppy even with the all the graphics options set to low and the res set to 1024X768. FPS show im still good but the game just responds real jittery. Tried to uninstall and reinstall Shipsim and Physx but no luck.
Bit long winded for a first post bit more info is always better than not enough.
-
Hi Bob,
Out of curiosity, why do you think that PhysX might be a problem?
There seems to be some confusion over the role PhysX plays in SSE. Apparently, only the physics routines are used—for ship dynamics, etc.—and they run only in the CPU.
So far as I know, no use of PhysX is made in rendering in the GPUs—and, of course, it can’t run on ATI cards in normal circumstances.
Off hand, it sounds like a sudden hardware failure.
Vin_sun will have more advice and instructions for posting your Dxdiag.
Regards,
Marty
-
Im not shure as to how much of the diagnostics info you want but all it says in there is that there is no problems. None of my other games show this problem. Heck i played a bit of Batman Arkham asylum with everything of full with max PhysX just to be certain and had no problems. heck i can force PhysX off onto the CPU and still have it playable. I also have many other sims and games that are i general much harder on my equipment that play way smoother. Railworks 2, X-plane 9, Farmsim 2011, UT3 with PhysX mods, ETC.... and yes i understand that it may not be a PhysX problem at all, but seeing as Ship sim does not even make my GPU, CPU, or Ram load hit 100% why does it lag so?
And again it was running Perfectly but now it won't. Im not a newb to computers i have built them since i was 12 and im now 25 i just don't have the time or the patience to screw with hours of finding whatever the problem anymore.
Edit: i just booted Ship sim and the main reason i say Physx is that the graphics such as the background and Rain and and thing that is just eye candy moves as normal but the ship acts jittery. like my inputs are delayed sometimes more sometimes less, like with the speed boat with the steering on instant it does not respond instantly.
-
Hi Stuperbob,
Have you changed any hardware recently? Have you updated a driver for a particular device? Have you installed any software recently or changed any settings?
If you wouldn't mind posting your DXDIAG we can take a better look at things, but by the looks of it you seem to know what you're doing.
The game doesn't run as smooth as it should for lower end computers, but judging by your system you should be able to play the game perfectly.
Regards,
Adam

Too far off topic.
-
Hmm, no offence, but isn't this more of a Tech Support issue? doesn't seem to be releated to patch v1.3
Sorry... :-\
-
ok, I seriously need that Editor!
Come on VSTEP!
I'm getting Bored and more bored! xD
haha :P
and a Happy New Year everyone! :D
-
I just said my theory in my initial post and was just responding to questions.
There ya go Ferry Man took out the tech stuff.
-
As I said, I didn't mean any offence, just the best area for help is the tech support part :)
-
I feel like saying my opinion to you guys in vstep, I have NEVER experienced such slow work from a game maker, ever... Are you still on vacation or something?
I'm sorry to bring up this again, but not ony did you deliver a game full of bugs, weeks later you release a patch which didn't fix much to be honest, so I hope this waiting is worth it! I really do, because I've really had it with vstep now!
-
To be honest, I've seen many developers go much much slower, but I guess it's hard to judge if you haven't seen what's going on.
Bugs aside, which are well documented by now, they are working really hard and it's not particularly slow in my own gaming experience, and I have tons of games and followed many games throughout development. So it's about personal experience and perspective too. And maybe you don't want them to have a nice holiday season with their family, but hey they're human too you know.
And it's not Vstep that's holding things up atm, but I can't divulge anything without shifting blame and that wouldn't be nice. :-\
If you've personally had it, I can understand that. I'm just saying, I've seen so much worse too that I can be patient and hopeful. I got one shelf in my cupboard just for games that didnt get ANY patching at all after a very buggy to unplayable start. At least Vstep is working hard to fix what is wrong.
Kind Regards,
Fred
-
Please do know, I DO wish them to have a nice holiday with their families ofcourse I do! :)
I'm just saying that if someone from vstep could update this post with some news! Thats all I ask for.
And Fred, It wasn't very clever of me to say those thing I said about vstep, I know that, and I guess I'm tired after starting school again... sorry
-
No worries, I can understand that people are restless and want the next patch. It's only fair that people would like to see the problems that they have, fixed by this patch, so they can enjoy the game that they paid good money for. I would feel the same way.
At the moment there wasn't much to post in terms of news. The release notes are still accurate and it's hard to predict when it will come if it's not always completely in your own hands.
But, as a little indication, it is very close to release now. I know that still sounds vague, but it's looking good!!
-
But, as a little indication, it is very close to release now. I know that still sounds vague, but it's looking good!!
close...
Would close be before or after the CCC deadline...?
-
I can't answer that I'm afraid.
-
:'(
Hmm...
I will just have to send Spirit of the Solent off with her current lifeboats then...
-
Has nobody cocidered the idea that VSTEP is waiting with the Patch-release till the end of the CCC ?
I thought it might be a good reason to wait till the winner of the CCC-Vessel/Enviroment is known and the vessel and/or inviroment would be implanted into the patch.
Just my thought
-
The patch is now out :2thumbs:
-
Yes the patch is now available. Enjoy! :)
-
Yahoow!! ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Enjoy! :)
Enjoy what? A decresion of my framerate from 10 -12 FPS down to 5 - 6 FPS ?
Not to be enjoyable at all. And the worst has still to come, I'm afraid. Had almost no crashes with the 1.2.2 version, now I'm happy with 3 to 4 crahes on 6 attempts.
So, what I was afraid about in the first place when I read that the 64 Bit computers would be take profite concerning the memory access, the 32 bit computers don't. I think I have to re-install the whole and go back to 1.2.2, with all it's limitations.
In spite of some peoples opinion that my machine must be able to run with a 64 bit OS, I'm not sure about it.
Could someone have a look at my dxdiag and tell me what I really need to run the SSE v 1.3 with at least 10 - 12 FPS ?
Thanks in advance.
-
I can't change the resolution from 1024*768 to 1280*1024
it's so annoying....
PS:Finally get it changed
FPS huge dropdown from 35 to around 10-15
Dissapointed :( :'(
-
HI All
We CMM'r have also realist 9 new missions your can download in the download system in SSE, hope your like them, happy sailing and have fun with all the new things in this 1.3 patch

I think you most likely need a video card upgrade. (I believe that your GT 240 is below the minimum requirements). I think that will make a bigger difference than going to a 64 bit OS. I'm running with the ATI Radeon 4850 in 32bit XP with a resolution of 1920x1200 and have the graphics settings in Ship Simulator maxed and am getting 25 FPS.
I did reduce a couple of things on my video card though (Catalyst AI is disabled and MipMap is set to performance rather than quality), so lowering the settings in Windows (not in the game) for your video card may help you also.
-
I think you most likely need a video card upgrade. (I believe that your GT 240 is below the minimum requirements).
Though it's not a "top of the line" card, a nVidia 240 GT card is fairly decent, it should be fine and is a better and newer model than the Minimum-specs listed for nVidia of "Geforce 8800GT".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units
I have a GT 220 card in my old computer, and it seems to run SSE well enough for me to enjoy.
Aad the Pirate: Looking over your computer's specs, I think it passes all of SSE minimum requirements. It looks like you have DirectX and graphic drivers up-to-date.
Here's a post I made over on the Steam-forums about SSE and some general suggestions users might try to help get it up and running and may also help improve performance:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19966512&postcount=3
You might want to also try some different SSE's various graphics settings, fullscreen vs windowed mode, go to nVidia's Control Panel form your graphics-card and add a profile for SSE (I set mine for when QuestViewer is running) and try some different settings there as well, such as trying with or without VSync enabled, select Single-Monitor Display, etc... Hopefully you'll be able to find a good balance of quality and performance for SSE running on your computer. Good luck.
-
Ahoy LoneWolfDon,
Tried anything you suggested, the only result:
Multiple Crashes :'(
Nevertheless, thank you for thinking along with me.
Next thing I'll do is a full re-install, and then a direct patch from 1.0 to 1.3
That's my last hope, otherwise the game has to go to the gameheaven till I can afford a Top-of-the-Bill System
Kind Regards
Aad

Apologies for the Tip & Tweaks information I had previous posted here which would have been more suitable to be on the SSE Technical forum.
I've now since made a new post on the Technical forum with the info over there:

A supplement:
You can also use AutoRuns which is part of the SysInternals utilities suite or the services.msc aplet for disabling unnecessary services and programs when Windows starts up.
-
Hi gentlemen,
would you please discuss technical subjects on the appropriate board ? Thanks in advance !
