On the movies I saw (all the ones of Bottman) was just someting wrog with the engine sound when you move the view. I hope that it gets improved a little bit till the release.

Btw, nice clips Bottman.

I think he did say there was something up with his soundcard and not to worry about it...

I totally agree!!! That's why I'm looking for the ship dynamics with both eyes. And everything what's not correct, I´m telling the developer. And he tries really hard to reach my expectations than. So I never mind about the colour of the ceiling or something like that.. ;)

Excellent!  :)

He he... Actually the Ship Sim-version of the Pride of Rotterdam is not sea-ready. The maritime authorities will not allow it to sail. Your video shows that the two masthead lights are positioned at the front of the ship - one on monkey island just above the bridge and one in the radar mast. The 'International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea' Annex I concerning 'Positioning and technical details of lights and shapes' states:

3. Horizontal positioning and spacing of lights

(a) When two masthead lights are prescribed for a power-driven vessel, the
horizontal distance between them shall not be less than one-half of the length of
the vessel but need not be more than 100 metres. The forward light shall be
placed not more than one-quarter on the length of the vessel from the stem.

This means that on the Pride of Rotterdam (215.1m OA) there has to be at least 100 metres between the two masthead lights...  :-\ The original has a mast by the funnel with the aft masthead light but this mast is not on the Ship sim-model... That is a shame...

One thing I did wonder about the PO Rotterdam video. To me it didn't seem to be pitching very much for the size of waves- from the outside view anyway.

The bridge view showed a fair bit of movement. I don't know, maybe the real ship has excellent stability.

Still looks very convincing indeed though. I'm astounded by the texture of the sea and waves.

But, Mr DJM... There is a problem with your beta test.

As you haven't been on a ferry, I think you should send ME your beta copy and I'll test it for you. It would save you an awful lot of time, and I wouldn't charge you for the help.

Stu

Worth a try ;)
EDIT: Maybe not worth a try.

Yes, ut like waiting for the Pride of Bilbao during a storm... you know its coming, but it's so boring hanging around waiting.

Oh I can see that.

I travel on ships a lot and (my knowledge is realy based around ferries- ie PO Rotterdam) it 'feels' right from the videos anyway. The shot aft of the bridge along the side looks so convincing.

One thing, I've noticed there are panels/windows along the top of the screen that are opened by key/mouse and includes things like engine RPM etc. Any chance you could enlighten us as to what else is there- couldn't see too well on the videos.

Most of that information is stuff like 'depth', 'COG', 'Waypoint details' and other useful info ;)

All adds to the game in my opinion :)

Someone said somewhere here (ss06) that there was a rate of turn indicator. I've never seen one. Have you?

I agree that it is in a league way beyond 06 though. I'm actually going out to buy another computer just to run this as my laptop isn't really up to 06 let alone the demands of 08.

Without crossing the thread with the 'minimum spec' thread, can I ask what spec you tested it on? Or what machine the videos were produced on.

<snip>

Stu

The rate-of-turn indicator came with (I think) the 1.8 patch, and it's another line in the window that has the GPS info (COG, dist. to waypoint, etc.)

Cheers,
Michael
