Oh you spoilt young'uns!

When I was your age we weren't allowed to skip school unless we were practically dying..

I would have given my right arm for a week off back then,... we just went, sick and all.

My friend "Lefty" pulled it off once though..   ::)

Surely you don't have to go school then do you?

On the subject of skipping school, only thirty people (including me, not including teachers) were at school today.

So, Titanic II for Ship Sim: yea or nay? ;D

The way I see it, it allows for the return of an old series favorite, without letting her become an anachronism. Additionally, as a ship engineered by Deltamarin, she meets SOLAS requirements, and has a unique steering configuration of two bow thrusters and three azimuth thrusters, controlled by wheel from the bridge!

What's more, with the project's construction imminent in China, and a delivery to Southampton that will include the vessel being escorted by the Chinese Navy, the Titanic II can act as a transition for VSTEP to begin adding harbors and ships from mainland Asia if they like! ;)

Deltamarin, Clive Palmer, several Titanic researchers, and the CSC Jinling Shipyard seem pretty dead set on making Titanic II a reality, so I wonder if VSTEP could work out a deal comparable to the one they had with Greenpeace for the Rainbow Warrior III while Titanic II enters construction?

If SSE gets Titanic II I will personally ram it as far up Alang* as possible.

*Or the nearest SSE equivalent

Alang Beach, where every ship in the world (well, almost) is broken up for scrap.

In other words he wants her to be run aground and turned into 1 million razor blades  ;)

Well Alang is not even close to being in Ship Simulator!

And besides that, I don't think beaching is part of the scrapping process ::)

Well if the rate at which ships are being added compared to the rate at which enviroments are being added is anything to go by, Titanic II will be in eons before Alang even gets drawn up ;D

Also, it turns out that there's actually a number of ways to contact Blue Star Line about Titanic II, so this could work out if we find a willing modeler (assuming Blue Star Line gives the okay) (also assuming that a model needs to be started from scratch at all, which it might not be, seeing as Deltamarin already has a 3D render of the new ship) ;)

You're forgetting a few "small" things here.
1. Vstep need to contact blue star, not the forum, or someone from it.
2. Vstep also need to invest not only the time, but the money to see the project through.
3. Development of anything new for SSE (bar the new DLC's that have been announced and the patch) appears to have all but ceased.
4. The game can barely handle the Oceana... Imagine what it would be like with the T2!?!

I'm not exactly a Titanic II supporter (To me it seems like a money grabbing billionaires attempt to profit from one of the worst maritime disasters on record), And I really don't want to burst someone bubble - but (un)fortunately the dream isn't going to become reality any time soon.

Probably something like it runs with Titanic 1?

I mean it is a replica... (In fact, just go drive Titanic in SS08)

If I may return to the Titanic II topic, about the motivations behind it:

1) Clive Palmer has directly stated that he doesn't care if he profits from this or not (though this looks like he certainly will). Even if his sole intent was to gain a profit from the fame of the Titanic, there's cheaper ways to do it than hiring the premier Titanic researchers, hiring a top-of-the-line ship design and naval engineering firm, and commissioning a Chinese shipyard (including overhauling said shipyard's facilities) to build a full-scale, thoroughly researched, ocean-legal replica! As for disrespecting, naming the new ship Titanic II should, along with other efforts from the Blue Star Line, ensure that no one forgets about the original.

2) Considering that construction on Titanic II is slated to begin next month in the CSC Jinling Shipyard and based on a design calculated and engineered by Deltamarin, Titanic II is going to actually happen. There's no longer any question, according to Art Braunschweiger of the Titanic Research and Modeling Association.

On the subject of VSTEP contacting the owners and not the community, how could the community catalyze that interaction between the two?

Titanic II could very well help (at least temporarily) revitalize Ship Simulator Extremes, as it seems that the better part of the community feels that the game, or even the series, is dying!

...commissioning a Chinese shipyard (including overhauling said shipyard's facilities)...

Have you any proof "he" is overhauling the yards facilities? Considering they already build large ocean-going vessels (such as the Finnwave and the Doric Champion) I doubt he will be doing any work to the facilities what-so-ever. Any work they do undertake will simply be modernisation of the facilities with money from the T2 contract.

... there's cheaper ways to do it than hiring the premier Titanic researchers, hiring a top-of-the-line ship design and naval engineering firm, and commissioning a Chinese shipyard...
Not if you need a certain image to sell your product. Why do you think Apple spend millions on R&D every year?

On the subject of VSTEP contacting the owners and not the community, how could the community catalyze that interaction between the two?
Simply put - We couldn't. You can ask Vstep/blue star nicely, but its up to them if they contact blue star (or for blue star to contact vstep).

Titanic II could very well help (at least temporarily) revitalize Ship Simulator Extremes, as it seems that the better part of the community feels that the game, or even the series, is dying!
I doubt anything short of a miracle can breath life back into the series. I think Vstep itself has pretty-much given up on "us", and has reached the conclusion that the series has probably run its course. They're now waiting for its current "special inspection" certificate to run out before selling it for scrap.

It's been said that Titanic II, if side-launched will be the largest ship ever to be side-launched. This particular Chinese shipyard only side-launches vessels, so they'll almost certainly need to enlarge their slipways accordingly in order to fit the ship!

And VSTEP is still developing SSE, as shown by the teaser video a few months ago.

Aaaah.. the futile grasping of a lost dream...   ::)

no that's not a hint.. but for starters... who is going to make the model? And why would they put Titanic II in the game?  If they did that, they might aswell put the REAL thing in, not the fake replica that only looks like it.

Don't give me that "they might as well put in the real thing" excuse after spending so long criticizing the idea as anachronistic! ;D A key difference between the old and new is that the new one follows SOLAS and so on.

And hey, there already IS a 3D model of the ship! Presumably, it was made by Deltamarin, the ship's designers, so whether or not it's too detailed for SSE might be an issue, but the point still stands that the 3D model exists and can be rotated around on the Titanic II's website!
