I went on several ships 'a few years back' and thought about joining the merchant navy, but was too old at that point... There is something about working on what amounts to a floating city.

You should of joined!! - As long as you have some GCSE's under your belt, with all core subjects being grade C or above, then you've passed the legal requirements. (Well, Legal requirements that the British Merchant Navy set, anyway).

As I said, I was too old at the time (unless I trained privately)

I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now. So, for me, it was ultimately the right thing to do
