Title: ShipSim08 Missions
Post by: wjjay on May 02, 2007, 02:25:32
What kind of missions will there be in shipsim08? I know that you can go between ports and there will be night missions. Will there be more interactive missions? Tugs mission? I'm really looking forward to hearing more about Shipsim08.

Do you know anything about the multiplayer, and missions there and so on?

Yes, good question indeed.

Multiplayer will probably be a free update to shipsim 2008. There will be no mission playing, only free roaming.

But is it possible for one to load up another player ship with containers?

Similar to how MSFS does it . . . . I see. Whartever happenes to the prospects of someone acting as Harbour Patrol or Harbour Master while other gamers cruised about?

I think I remember hearing that it would be possible to travel between Dover and Calais in this game, or is that for a later version.  There is a P&O ferry in the game after all.

I would be in favour of the Dover straits myself. But remember that the PP&O ferry shown is the PO Rotterdam and that doesn't really go anywhere near Dover.

However... If I remember rightly the hull is just an inflated version of the hulls designed in Bremerhaven for the Spirit and Dover classes (although PO Rotterdam wasn't actually built there).

If I recall, is the Pride of Bilbao the same design and if memory serves, she sails out of the Dover area, yes?

Well the multiplayer will be a great addition to the game. But how will this work out ore arrn't there any further details avaible. I mean, with a 1000 people in one harbor it could get a little croudy. Everyone with a big cruiseship  ;D

No, POBI is a 1986 build by Wartsila and is 37583 tonnes, 34ft tall and about 600ft long. She sails from Portsmouth and Bilbao across the Bay of Biscay. PO Rotterdam was built by Fincanteri yard in Italy. (P&O was once British but has a policy of buying anywhere but Britain). I have been on a few ships from Fincantiera and I can say they are artists as well as engineers. POBI is a square box, but she's as tough as hell and holds the sea well.

I was onboard last year and her charter has just been extended 4 years. She is a lovely boat, although she needs a face lift. Rotterdam is a much newer design.

Have a look at www.wikipedia.org there is a good article on Bilbao.

Sorry, I've joined this forum only recently. How will there be 1,000 people? Do you mean 1,000 online 'simmers'? There are many flight simmers using on-line gaming and they don't have that problem. It is normal, I believe, that people who have arranged a game together log onto one 'server' within an overall server. Basically, there could be hundreds of sub-servers going.

Hope that is clear as mud

My mistake for the confusion between the two ships. I agree, Fincartieri (SP) does excellent work. I have to say, the PoR is much prettier than her older sister.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

POBI is a lovely ship (could do with a refurb though)

Fincantieri do make beautiful ships- designed by engineers AND artists. Used to regularly go on the super seacat from Dover (basically a 1000 ton speed boat for those who don't know)- they were built by them.

At the risk of duplicating another thread, I just don't like the open stern of POR and POBI has a purposful look. A 'not afraid of the sea' and was built to sail rather than look pretty.

I'm going on PoR soon, so will see what its like. Surprised about the open stern in the North Sea. Doubt it would do well on the Bay Biscay
