Hard to imagine how he did it .......... removing the wire / chain lashings, possibly a devil's claw too, then the bow stopper bar and finally the brake !!!

With ISPS fully implemented wouldn't the foc'sle have been a restricted area ??

Or maybe he was an ex-Bosun !!!!

Just shows that just having a sign saying that it is off limits to passengers doesn't work - a padlock and chain might be a better idea!!!

according to the website of "The Smoking Gun" http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/drunk/anchor-drop-lands-cruise-passenger-brig  it was the STERN-anchor which was dropped  ???

Very stupid that any passenger on board had the opportunity for releasing the anchor! If you release the anchors at the bow while sailing at full speed, the ship will slow down very abruptly and will be dragged down. This dragging down can cause the ship to capsize.

If you release the anchors at the bow while sailing at full speed, the ship will slow down very abruptly and ....

.... will yank out the bitter end or cable will simply part at a weak link !

That would be a bitter end for the anchor and it's chain...  ;D

Hoy
Dropping anchors is not that difficult, because in emergency cases it has to be able to release very quick.
If that guy has wome knowledge of has been a crewmember in the past,it only would have helped his(crazy!!!)action.
Keep also inmind that there are some instructions on the winch on a plate to.
Regards
Marc
