Excuse me if it has been mentioned already, but I'm not really a fan of RCL, I think they've gone too big, but I found out something pretty awesome earlier on - Anthem of the Seas will be sailing from Souhtampton next year! ;D I do hope her and Britannia will be in together, a major reason to holiday in Southampton in April 2015   Now we only need QM2...

It look like Vstep are setting Ship Simulator 08 ready to drift off to the Vista

How unfortunate it may be, there is a very good reason for closing the servers. And that is a six year old game.
Please keep in mind that it's a rare thing in the first place for a company to run free dedicated servers. Especially six years after release of the game. It has always been an extra that Vstep wasn't required to do. So you cannot blame them for eventually stopping with it. Just because you take it for granted, doesn't make them obligated.

To put it more easily; imagine a person providing free cookies every day, every year for no charge at all, and one day he decides to stop with it because he's getting old or whatever reason. Would you put the blame on him for not providing anything anymore? Totally forgetting what he did all those years?

Games age, and some things eventually come to an end. We cannot run servers until 2045.

We did a check on how much the SS08 multiplayer servers were being used opposed to SSE, and against my expectations, we received practically no response from SS08. Especially when the servers were down. Most reports came from Ship Simulator Extremes.

And remember, Vstep only stops hosting their own servers, not the multiplayer feature itself. You can still create your own server if you wish.

So there is zero valid reason to even think about bashing Vstep for this, and I will have no toleration for those who do. A small thank you would be nice, because after all, they could have decided to have never hosted any server at all in the past six years to prevent negative responses from happening later on when they would close them down.

Hey, its just an opinion :) but while we're at it I do thank VSTEP for keeping the servers open until now, its just a shame they couldn't keep them open for longer

I know.  ;) I was speaking more generally in regard to the bashing. Just so that everyone understands. Many people have a habit of drawing conclusions before knowing the whole deal.

I guess I do sometimes - I completely agree the reasons for it but it's just sad for ss08 multiplayer come to the end - though to be fair I had a look on the multi player and nobody was on it - so for that aspect I understand!

Today it's the last time I'll see one of my favorite ships, Blue Star Ithaki. Today it's the last time I'll hear its horn but I'm sure that its captain, cpt Ilias Verveniotis (Ηλίας Βερβενιώτης), whose name is really connected with BS Ithaki will make Ithaki's last departure unforgetable...I'm sure of it!!! Maybe I'll upload a video of ship's last departure from Syros, tomorrow.  :'( :'( :'(

PS: The ship will leave Piraeus on 1/11 and will go to Canada to work for another Ship Company.

And here is another video recorded and edited by me. These 30 minutes the ship stayed at the port yesterday were full of happiness and sadness... It was the last time we saw the ship after 14 years of continious service. Syros was the first port it arrived with passengers in 2000 and the last port in 2014... Fortunately, this last time was the most unforgetable... Now canadians will enjoy its wonderful appearence :( ...Goodbye Ithaki!

Hey captains!!!

I don't want to make another topic so I'll just upload here what I want to ask-say...
I'm trying to enter a server in MP (SSE) but it says that it needs my licence key! I'm already registered so I really don't know what the problem is. I turned the firewall off and still no result... PLEASE if someone can help me just do it!!! I've tried everything and the next thing I'll do is breaking my Pavilion g6.... I'm not joking!!!!  >:(

I seem to remember that you need to download some software in order to start your own server..
Perhaps Mr Robville will be able to clarify this. (or send him a PM)
So don't break your computer just yet..(it's not worth it).. ;)

Thanks for your ansewer saltydog but I want to enter an official server and not to make a new one... Don't worry I won't destroy my pc and its intel core i5   I was very disapointed yesterday due to a mechanical problem of Fernado Alonso's ferrari (F1) and then I couldn't join MP or download a single mission so I was quite furious

Hi all
Have just played on the new ship sim (won`t mention the name ) and i have to say.
Well done Vstep for producing a great sim which i would say was well ahead of it`s time at launch. I like many others have wished for many more updates but as we are lead to believe that is never going to happen as the program is full of bugs and would take a hole re-right of the program to go ahead. I enjoy this sim and still play it mostly free roam and my own missions that i have made not good enough for upload and the occasional MP session. For all of us that have bashed Vstep me included i have now completely changed my mind.
Thanks Vstep
