I am new to this sim and presently trying the 'tanker at sea' with the crew member overboard.  I have got as far as the 2nd point where I have to stop the ship, which I have done.  It says to call nearby ships, how do I do this.  I take it I have to do this to use the other vessel in this sim?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the sim :)

Just to check, you are using the SS06 version, and not the SS08? :)

Anyway, there is no "live" radio. So I have a look at the next waypoint, it might give a clue. Or, have a look at other playership waypoints ;)

I seem to remember you have to continue for a bit in this mission there appears to be a hidden waypoint, or it waits until you are doing under 5kn or something. The Sherpa then becomes available  ;D
