Just out of intrest it it common for a ship to vibrate really violently if it hits an underwater object? Because last night while going to Ireland at around 4.40am the Stena Europe shook real violently and woke us up. We went to reception and they weren't too sure what happend but they thought it hit and underwater object. But we wore in middle of thr Irish Ocean so what was there to hit?

A very large fish? That Stena vessel wouldn't be the first ship to hit a marine animal.

We spoke to reception on the ship and they didn't know what it was but "they  think  they hit something"
I didn't get a chance to talk to the captain as I normally would as I had to go somewhere quick (although I'll see tonight on the return Journey. I hate my busy life sometimes  haven't been home for 3 days) but it was a lot of vibrations - not a little engine vibrations or felt like a light bump.

Maybe some turbulence? I've felt that a few times crossing Lake Michigan, but it's more of a light pitching.

Fisherman, sailingboats etc. Plenty of things to hit on the ocean!

You don't necessarily have to hit something to get heavy vibration. It can also occur when the ship sails (too fast) in shallow water or when they give hard rudder on the bridge.

No it was in the middle of the ocean - we did joke it hit a submarine though  
The next crossing was delayed by  half a hour to check the ship we wore told but they don't know what they hit.

I don't think it was Turing as I was speaking to someone who I know who works on the bridge and they are trying to keep the mechanics going on the rudder (it's hit and miss) and they turn by lowering power to one prop as it's has 2 props.

I'm good thanks Danny, getting married next year!  I will be 40 in March and I have never been to a wedding in my life, my own in February will be my first!

Last summer I took some pictures of the night sky hoping in vain I would catch the stars on it. Of course all pictures turned out black. But today I found two remaining photo's on the SD drive and decided to open them in photoshop and upscaled the brightness for about +800%. It turns out I did catch some stars:

Looks pretty cool I think. I didn't change the color. It's most likely caused by the little light being catched by the digital image receiver.

Reminds me of the times I tried to make pictures of the planets. Especially Jupiter.

Just don't turn up wearing an oil covered boilersuit and brandishing a HUMONGOUS spanner... Also, don't forget you're the Groom.
Doing either of those things will probably turn the in-laws into firebreathing dragons! Wait... Aren't they firebreathing dragons by default? Hmm... I know! It'll make them angrier than a captain who's just been told he can't make his booked berth time because the "big noisy thing that goes wurr made a bang noise then stopped going wurr".

Great space pictures Mr. Robville and VirtualSkipper! Speaking of which, when should ISON be passing by? I heard first that it would be in mid-October, then late November.

I also hear that ISON will be coming very close to the sun, and with such a large object passing through the terrestrial solar system, it may cause near catastrophic events on Earth.

Also, only 35 states left until gay marriage is legal in all the US! What a time to be living in!
