Greetings,
This is the area of Marseille, which vstep is working on,for the new release.
-
Hi marcstrat,
nice chart, beside the fact, that Marseille is hardly to see there.. ;) ;) ;)
Try Google-Earth and you may find the pitoresk scenery there. It´s an unusal port of course, because its directly at the shore, no river or estuary to sail up.
Cheers

Greetings,
Yes,i know this map is not realy the good size, but i could not work on other ones, that was not allowed, and this is just a idea,of what you can get in the new version, maybe before the release vstep want to show the real map on this forum.
Unless you can finf me a better one,and send it over to me.
Regards
Marc

Seems like a good area to play in SS. ;)
Yer and I agree it doesn't really show all of Marsille. :)
-
Hello marcstrat,
Does that map represent the whole area around Marseille in ShipSim2008, or will it be only a part of it?

Luc

He has highlighted the harbor itself - i would assume that is all VStep has put into the game. However, let us hope for more, eh? And yes, it is an open port, nothing too challenging in regards of getting to it. I am curious as to why it was selected.
-
Greetings,
If you open enlarge the picture, you will have everything within that square.
This is the best i could do,and it is just to give you a idea, what's coming up.

Yes, indeed.

Here's a map of Marseille from local.live.com[img]

Thats definetely part of the new environment, but the port with terminals for RoPax and CV starts a little bit north of these chart.

Greetings,
It's quite a big area,what i've seen.
So it's more the Bay of Marseille,i dont know the distance, however i've seen it.One thing i know. You will enjoy it.

I hope to see in never versions, the Istanbul strait. It's amazing to sail, about 12 times you must change your course, variable currents, lots of historical buildings at shore.
There is the screen of Istanbul Strait.

Oh is that so, eh? :p

This is Marseille Port really challenging.
Toyo
-
Yeah. It looks like it will be a nice challenge to get larger vessels docked up in that area.
-
What's the largest type of ship that usually docks there?
-
No clue, I would like to know, as well. I think Superfast Ferries has gone over to there at some point or another.
Anyone - answers?
-
These two ships dock there on the route to Algeria. ;)
-
and these...
-
and these!! :D
-
and the last ones... ;D ;D
and sorry but I have no idea which is the biggest one!!
-
The last one was cool! ;D

Guess ANEK Lines "El Venizelos" with GT 38261...
Cheers

thanks for finding that out for me. :D
-
Well it's good to see that big ships can actually dock there.
-
That one marked cosmote, wouldnt be the ex P O Portsmouth or Le Havre would it? Looks similar (not sure about the back).
Stu
-
Wow they're all nice ships, hopefully later some could be added to SS!
-
Yes, but it's realy a challenge to berth the PRIDE there! She is somewhat larger than the above mentioned ferries. Well, I know, Marseille was never visited by the P&O ferry, but it looks great! And with a little bit of imagination, she has made a call there on her delivery voyage from her Italian shipbuilder...

Hi Stu,
not it's not! The EL VENIZELOS is a sister vessel of Stena Lines STENA GERMANICA rsp. STENA SCANDINAVICA, both enroute between Kiel (Germany) and Göteborg (Sweden). Stena Line has ordered a series of four ships in Poland in the 80ties, but the yard suffered a lot of problems. So Stena took over just two vessels with much delay and the third casco/hull was sold to Greek interests, to be finished in Perama. The fourth ship was never finished, as far as I know, but also sold to Greece with plans to make a cruise vessel with the hull...

Greetings,
To my point of view,it is perfectly possible to sail Pride of Dover into Marseille harbour, this harbour is big enough,in some area's.

PRIDE OF DOVER ? ? ? But you are right, the terminals along the Quai De La Joliette or Quai Du Maroc are suitable for berthing such a huge vessel (PoR).

Thanks Bottman
When you put a picture of the 'cosmote' vessel and PO Portsmouth/ Le Havre you can see the difference. Similar general layout though, hence the confusion.
I agree with other comments here that the PO Rotterdam is looking really good.

I can see that the area would be accommodating to the ships, although it would be a tight squeeze. No?
-
Greetings,
I think you have to decide which entrance you want to take, between to docks inside there are passages, but these can be to narrow for some vessels.
That's what i could see.

On the south side I think is where they accommodate the large ferries, eh? It seems like you cruise in forward and have to back ALLLLL the way out. Hard stuff.

Dave,
I think that you can swing her around in the harbour, but i did not try that sofar.
Marc

I tried and the stern was caught on the low bed in the bottom of the harbor. I had to do a lot of clever rudder, engine, and bow thruster control to get myself unstuck.
-
The seabed is contoured and we really need to watch for sandbanks, wrecks etc??? are you serious?
Stu
-
Greetings,
Yes,you have to watch the depth,or you will hit the ground,or the obstacle under the watersurface.
Marc
-
Thanks. Now that sounds good :)
This is sounding much more like a simulator than a game.

See, where you can dock the PoR in the southern piers, it seems hard to get her out. I ended up backing her out slowly . . . Took a lot of effort and time.
