I have to say though, the ferry and pax ship culture especially is definitely always a race against time...
I'd be curious to see what they actually do at this berth in Rotterdam. Any of our Dutch friends know???
In '96 I was sailing on a nice "small" pax ship, the Royal Majesty out of Miami. We use to dock at terminal 7(E now) and since all the pax ships departed between 1700-1830 causing congestion in the port, we were short enough (before NCL lengthened her) to just crack the stern open and pivot right in front of the berth, weather permitting of course. (i attached an old aerial photo you can see what i mean, the basin is in the lower left of the picture).
This would allow us to avoid going down to the turning basin at the end of Dodge Island and get out first so as not to deal with waiting for the Bigger Ships.
