Another problem adding onto SS08 with Windows 7
« on: July 11, 2010, 03:24:37 »

OK, I've been throughout the forum, and nothing has helped yet, set let me try my own post.  I'm running Windows 7 64bt, and I have Ship Simulator 2008, version 1.00, build 1000.  Whenever I try to update it, I get the Quest 3D
problem.  I was able to update it to version 1.1, build 1100.  But whenever I do anything else I get this:

Quest 3D ERROR:
A channel that is needed for this project has an incorrect engine version:
0438A114-59DD-4C72-8A1F-AE5C96A9D806

It then asks if I want to upgrade it, and I already read on another post not to.  I've already looked at the The Ship Simulator 2008 Upgrade Path V1.10, and that did not help.  I've tried going from 1.00 to 1.42, 1.00 to 1.30, 1.10 to 1.42, 1.10 to 1.30 and none of them work.  I end up uninstalling and going back to version 1.00.  I a little bit of a newbie here so I'm sorry.  I really am trying, (just ask my wife how trying I am).  I also have the New Horizons expansion but can't do anything with that until I take care of this.

FOLLOW UP:
I tried it before, but THIS time I got it.  Installed as administrator-restarted-updated as administrator-restarted-ran as administrator-WORKED!  But now, do I have to run as administrator every time?

Have you tried compatability mode?

Running as administrator is fundamental to getting SS 2008 to work on W7, as it should be in getting it to run under Vista. It has been stressed so often on this forum that it is puzzling why that comes as a surprise.

It is not true, as you stated, that you were “throughout the forum”, there is a Technical Support board where specific help in running under W7 is given. Access to that board requires that you register your serial key into your forum profile.

Hi gvout

If you right click on the shipsim icon and those properties in the menu, in the new window those advance end mark the box that say run as a administrator.
Then you have fixed the "problem" You do not need to those every time, joust run the game as usually.
